The Double Standard

Does Trump even know what a double standard is?

In this short video, you will see the entirety of his character reveal itself. He hates women who stand up to him.

Your ears do not deceive you.

The President of the United States of America stood in the Rose Garden, waggled his goddamned mini finger at an adult woman, and said "I understand you very well. Better than you understand yourself."

There is no bottom. There are only more opportunities ahead for Trump to destroy any chance that he has of acting like a decent human being in public. Republicans keep throwing themselves into the breach like cannon fodder, trying to defend this president from his enemies. They do not seem to realize that, every time he opens his mouth, more Americans decide they will vote to throw every goddamned Republican out of office as soon as humanly possible.

It's impossible to be shocked anymore, but there you have it.

Go Ahead and Resign Already, Jeez

I’m not here to have a bullshit argument about whether or not someone can “mature” and “change” throughout their life so that they can have a convenient excuse ready at hand when it is revealed that, when they were a fucking adult, they did crazy racist shit like Ralph Northam.

No, I’m not here to excuse what he did and look for “nuance” because he’s a guy who beat a Republican.

I’m here to say go ahead and resign:

The Richmond Times-Dispatch, the primary daily newspaper in Virginia's capital city, is calling on Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam to resign following the emergence of a racist yearbook photo he appeared in during his time in medical school.

The newspaper published an editorial on Friday night after Northam apologized in a statement. In a video released later Friday evening, Northam indicated he plans to serve out his term.

"The photograph reveals a lack of adult judgment that is disturbing. It does not erase Northam's service in the military or his compassion as a physician. It does, however, strongly suggest that he should, for the good of Virginia, step down from its highest office and allow Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax to succeed him," the editorial reads.

The photograph of Northam, which was obtained by CNN, appears in the 1984 yearbook for Eastern Virginia Medical School. It shows one person in blackface and another dressed in the Ku Klux Klan's signature white hood and robes. Northam did not say whether he was wearing the KKK outfit or blackface, but he confirmed he was in the photo, and said in a statement that the costume was "clearly racist and offensive."

Ralph Northam has known that this yearbook page was out there for thirty-five fucking years.

Thirty-five years!

And he went ahead and ran for office anyway. He did what he did knowing this would come out. He did it knowing that countless Democrats trusted him to be a candidate who could win a statewide race in a critically important mid-Atlantic state. He did it knowing he was running to be the chief executive of his state. He did it knowing that thousands of people were going to work their asses off to get him elected. He did it knowing that he would take a job where he had to run a massive operation full of people who needed to know he wasn’t compromised and damaged goods. He asked millions of people for their votes. He raised millions of dollars and accepted the nomination to run for governor knowing he had this in his background. And then he won and raised his hand and swore to be respectable and honorable on behalf of the people who voted for him and against him.

What a crock of shit. He knew this was out there, and he made a calculated decision to go ahead and expose himself to the consequences. He put his own desire for power ahead of the needs of the people of Virginia who were counting on him to not be a racist fucking douchebag.

The people in his immediate circle all knew about this, right? I’m sure he told everyone that this was out there, right? Oh, who the hell cares? They’re probably reeling right now, and there are a significant number of people who are going to have severe trust issues as a result of this.

Northam did it and he didn’t think of the tremendous distraction it would create. He did all of this and he didn’t care how it looked, what would happen when it came out, and he didn’t have an honest conversation with people before running for governor about what it meant and why it was wrong. If he had stood up and said, “this is what I did in college. I known now that it was wrong. I should have known it was wrong at the time and I should tell you about this because I have changed, I have dedicated myself to public service, and I need you to know that I did this terrible thing BEFORE you cast your vote for me so that we can start off on the right foot.”

Nope.

When caught, he fell back on saying he was sorry, and he stopped short of resigning.

Well, what are you waiting for, Governor Northam? Go ahead and resign already.

In the Democratic Party, we don’t tolerate this bullshit. The governorship of one state is not worth compromising what we stand for. I believe that if we do not call for Northam’s resignation, we’re no better than the yahoos in Northwest Iowa who vote to send Steve King back to Washington every two years. We are not hypocrites. We do not fold up and shit the bed when it comes time to take a stand. We don’t equivocate and turn a blind eye and betray our principles like millions have done every day for the last three years of Trump. No, we have zero goddamned tolerance for this and we are consistent and precise with how we feel about it.

Resign.

Even On His Way to Church, Trump Spews Hate

I just want to reiterate this again in a separate post--the President of the United States of America, who is married to an immigrant, is attacking people with hateful rhetoric about immigration on his way into a church on Easter Sunday.

Trump is so possessed by hatred and so desperate to lash out at his enemies that he cannot resist doing so on Easter Sunday morning just outside of a church where he will attend services. Imagine the cognitive dissonance necessary to say what Trump said today. It's mind-boggling.

This is not how decent people act, ever. This is not normal. This is really just another despicable act by a man so shallow and so absolutely gripped by his own torturous hate for others that he cannot resist any opportunity to strike out at people who are living in a legal limbo that he created in order to make his supporters happy.

Trump did this on Easter Sunday right before church? Yes, he did. Trump is who he is, and he will never change.

I Hate Illinois Nazis

This man got 20,000 votes:

Republican candidate Arthur Jones, a Holocaust denier who has been disavowed by his own party, will be the GOP's nominee in a suburban Chicago congressional district after he ran in Tuesday's primary unopposed.

Jones's campaign website contains a section called "The Holocaust Racket" in which he argues that there is "no proof such a so-called 'Holocaust' ever took place anywhere in Europe against the Jews" and that Jews are "directly responsible for the murder of at least 300 million people."

Jones in February told the Chicago Sun-Times that he's a former leader of the American Nazi Party.

He's long been a stain on the Illinois Republican Party, which has successfully blocked his previous congressional bids. The state Republican Party has disavowed his candidacy, with the state party chairman calling him a Nazi. Democrats have similarly blasted Jones and his views.

Yet because the GOP decided against running any candidate in the heavily Democratic district, and Jones successfully met the criteria to make the ballot, he will be the party's nominee.

"Long been a stain in the Illinois Republican Party" is the sort of thing we should all get used to hearing because, well, this is our life now. Arthur Jones is human garbage, as are the people who voted for him. I think the New York Times should go interview the people who voted for him and find out how their economic anxiety is coming along these days.

Honestly, I don't want to know them, understand them, or hear about their problems. Fuck them. I don't think anyone should cater to them or try to win their vote. Just let them stew in their own boiled ignorance.

Is the whole Republican Party fucking crazy? Of course it is. Child molesters, Holocaust deniers, and whatever they call people who make your grandma live off cat food--that's what they are now.

Not just a fucking disgrace--a complete and utter disgrace of Biblical proportions. That's what it is now.

No Significant Intelligence Gathered in Yemen Raid

You couldn't have predicted this, now could you?

Last month's deadly commando raid in Yemen, which cost the lives of a U.S. Navy SEAL and a number of children, has so far yielded no significant intelligence, U.S. officials told NBC News.

Although Pentagon officials have said the raid produced "actionable intelligence," senior officials who spoke to NBC News said they were unaware of any, even as the father of the dead SEAL questioned the premise of the raid in an interview with the Miami Herald published Sunday.

"Why at this time did there have to be this stupid mission when it wasn't even barely a week into [President Trump's] administration?" Bill Owens, whose youngest son Ryan was killed during the raid, said. "For two years prior ... everything was missiles and drones (in Yemen)....Now all of a sudden we had to make this grand display?"

You have two things going on here. One, a Navy SEAL lost his life because a disinterested third party--in this case, the President of the United States--waved at some guys holding papers and said, in effect, "yeah, go ahead and carry out your raid." Two, there are so many people leaking information to the press that there is, in effect, nothing "secret" anymore. Classified information is no longer in existence because we have numerous officials so terrified of how bad the Trump Regime is governing this country that they cannot help themselves but leak sensitive material. It's the most remarkable thing I've seen in my entire life.

You have the Republicans, and they faux pro-military bullshit, literally being set on fire before the eyes of the American people. They've been lying about what happened since the minute it hit the press. Do they care about the truth? Do they care about making sure no one else has to die in an ill-conceived mission? Do they care about veterans or the military or safety or security?

No.

They care about tax cuts for the rich, screwing everyone else, and covering Donald Trump's bountiful ass with a circus tent.

So, what's left? Well, if we had any kind of competent oversight of the Executive Branch, Congress would already be scheduling hearings into what happened on this mission. Given the entire precedent of the attack in Benghazi, I would say that both the House and the Senate should be ready to spend millions of dollars and several years getting to the bottom of why Donald Trump gave the go-ahead for a poorly planned mission that resulted in no intelligence gathering and the loss of one life.

The problem with that is, the Republicans are all hypocrites and won't touch this with a ten foot pole.

The Intolerant Monsters Running America

Well, they got what they wanted. A senseless act that does nothing but encourage discrimination is exactly what they wanted. Anything to get people to stop talking about Russian mob ties.

The Trump Regime wanted to find someone to hate so they have now moved on to transgender students trying to get through school.

Anyone who has ever gone through K-12 education in America knows it is a breeze if you are straight, white, and wealthy. If you are anything else, forget about getting through it without days and days of pain and suffering for kids trying to find a place in this world. If you're a transgender student, you might as well expect that your life is going to be difficult and challenging. And while we can attack the problems of bullying and stereotyping and discriminating, it's enormously difficult to change what is in the hearts of people who want to express hate and intolerance towards people who are the same as all of us but different.

The Trump Regime decided to strip away rights today. They went after dignity. They went right to intolerance and hate:

The Trump administration issued a new letter on Wednesday: The federal government will no longer stand behind Obama-era guidelines requiring schools to accommodate transgender students based on their gender identity. The new administration is withdrawing two letters, written in 2015 and 2016, in order to “further and more completely consider the legal issues involved.” The Departments of Justice and Education believe “there must be due regard for the primary role of the States and local school districts in establishing educational policy,” it said.

The letter signals how the Trump administration will handle cases of perceived discrimination against transgender students. Toward the end of the letter, the administration notes that “all schools must ensure that all students, including LGBT students, are able to learn and thrive in a safe environment.” The primary disagreement is about where those protections come from: While the Obama administration believed existing civil-rights laws specifically cover transgender students, the Trump administration argues that this interpretation was not based on “extensive legal analysis” and did not undergo any formal public-review process.

This decision to reverse course on transgender rights could have consequences for a number of pending court cases. But most importantly, the letter suggests that the federal government will step back from this fight altogether, leaving it to the states to decide.

Taking away the full weight and force of the Federal government behind providing for transgender people is a cheap stunt to appease the hateful base of the Republican Party. It is a cowardly move designed to check another box that this so-called "president" can recite for adoring crowds. It does not help a single American. It does not put anyone back to work. It does not fix a single thing in this country that needs fixing. It does not make us a better people. It does not give us the ability to be proud of working through our differences and our concerns. It does not provide anything useful for Americans anywhere. It does not give freedom to those who have been oppressed. It rewards small people for their small hearts and their small ideas.

Certain states will do the right thing. Many more will do the wrong thing and force Americans to confront what it is that they don't understand. A moment of human dignity--the ability to use the fucking bathroom--is all that was granted when the Obama Administration granted those rights decades and decades too late for an enlightened people. It forced some schools to rearrange the fucking signs on some fucking bathrooms and accommodate people. So what?

This is not what America is about. You don't take away rights. You look for ways to give people as many rights as you can and you look for a way to correct injustices wherever they are. The American people should have one unassailable principle--we will always try to do better. This does worse. This does evil. This is the work of monsters who are doing the bidding of small, small people.

This is What America is All About Right Now

Update - this is why we can't have nice things.

You cannot write about anything anymore--everything is "fake" news. Clearly, the story outlined below has problems, and clearly the whole media complex in America is seriously broken right now.

I mean, you see these horrible stories, and you want to say something, but there is nothing out there worth commenting on anymore because it's all lies, all shit, all vacuous garbage.

Ugh.

The unmistakable ugliness of this story will not shock anyone who has been paying attention to the direction in which this country is headed:

A Jewish family was forced to flee their Pennsylvania home after Fox News and Breitbart ran stories wrongly blaming them for being responsible for the cancellation of a Christmas play. A Christmas Carol was set to be performed by local fifth graders, as is tradition at Centerville Elementary School; and the Jewish parents asked for their child to be exempt from the play, and were granted the exemption. The school district ended up canceling the program, however, and said it was due to time constraints, not objections to the line, “God bless us, every one.” Sites like FoxNews.com and Breitbart, nevertheless, ran stories implying that the family was responsible for the play being axed. Their children were being harrassed at school, and after suspecting that their address would be leaked online, the family fled. “There’s no way we’re going to take a chance after the pizza incident,” they told Lancaster Online, referring to a fake news story which prompted an individual to show up armed at a D.C. pizza restaurant to “investigate” the false conspiracy theory of a Clinton-run child-sex slave ring.

To say that these poor people are terrified fails to take into account the fact that they are being terrorized in the worst sense of the word; this will not stop just because they "fled" their home. It will continue until decent people stand up and resist the demonization of people through online means. To say that we're in need of Federal protections, comprehensive online stalking laws, and the implementation of protections for people is an understatement. Hate flourishes in the absence of the law, which is the only remedy available in a decent society. Laws protecting the rights of people from online harassment and terrorization are inadequate right now. Will they be gutted in the months and years ahead?

The next four years will test the rule of law like no other period in American history. What a shameful thing to have to write about and talk about. What in the living hell is wrong with this country?

How could anyone remain silent in the face of this?

William Donohue Joins Forces With the Muslims Against Satire

You knew this was coming from Bill Donohue, he of the cheap suit Catholicism that drives the Pope crazy.

If there's a wrong side of an argument, and if there's an even more wrong side of it that no one is making, William Donohue and his Catholic League will jump on it with both feet and beat it into the ground, finding a way to be even nastier than conceivably possible.

Do you know what makes America a great country? The fact that Donohue can thrive here and practice his hate and not face criminal prosecution. He has to deal with crappy bloggers, and that's about it.
