Darrell Issa is Drunk With Power

This is the big whopper from Darrell Issa's appearance on Meet the Press:
A top GOP critic pushed back Sunday on charges that Republican efforts to investigate last year's Benghazi attack are designed to inflict political damage on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
"Hillary Clinton's not a target," said House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa on NBC's Meet the Press. "President Obama is not a target."
Issa, who heads a panel probing the assault on the diplomatic outpost that killed four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens, said he will seek depositions from Benghazi review board heads Ambassador Thomas Pickering and retired Adm. Mike Mullen, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
You can either believe Issa or not--that's out of my control. But, I can tell you this--the Republican Party is going to seek to undo their landslide loss from 2012 and they are going to go all-in on impeaching President Obama.

The only way they are going to be able to make that happen is if they can do two things: one, they have to keep tanking the economy so that the president loses the approval of the American people and two, they have to win enough seats in 2014 to throw off some of the balance in the Senate. There are plenty of Democrats who will vote to impeach the president--Manchin from West Virginia being a virtual Republican at this point who should no longer bother to caucus with the party he turns his back on every chance he gets.

Impeachment is coming. That's not a misprint. It is not an idle threat. That's not a firebagger orgasm in the depths of some tea party meetup. The Republican Party is going to seek some abuse of power, some overreach, some mistake that they can use to create a case for throwing President Obama out of office.

Let's remember this--Obama should have dumped Joe Biden. He should have picked a younger and more dynamic figure to be his running mate in order to maintain the threat that a sitting vice-president would be ready to step into office in 2016. Instead, he has a great man and a great advisor with him, but not a man who has had any success running for president.

I hope I am wrong, but my reading of this is that Issa knows impeachment is not possible right now; he has to appear impartial and investigative to the public. He has to "stumble" onto something that will appear legitimate. The fact that they came up with nothing but FAIL last week means he has to backtrack before the slavishly adoring press. But, impeachment is coming.
