The Details Are in the Scat

There are a number of things to like about this article. The wolves that have migrated from Poland back into Germany are settling in nicely, and the analysis that has been done of their scat (or, poo if you're following along at home) reveals that their diet has consisted mainly of roe deer.

These are small deer, and they are fairly common. This is a good diet for the wolves because it keeps them from going after farm animals. Should the population of deer suffer because of some environmental change, it would, of course, upset the food supply for the wolves.

Of interest to me was the fact that these wolves are avoiding eating rabbits. For now.
