Oddly Enough, No One Cares

Have you noticed that no one seems to really lament (or give a damn) about the fact that thirty years of Space Shuttle use is coming to an end? More people seemed to care when the two shuttles were lost. The end seems to be an example of public disinterest in the space program in general.

Do we even need a space program? We need more science and more research, but capturing the public's imagination is beyond the reach of what's left. NASA itself could fold and no one would notice.
