Texas Really Does Need the Federal Government

It's not often you'll see such a blatant admission like this:

The wildfires have ravaged more than 1,000 square miles of mostly rural terrain in the last week, prompting Gov. Rick Perry to ask President Barack Obama for federal help.
"Texas is reaching its capacity to respond to these emergencies and is in need of federal assistance," Perry said in a statement Sunday. "I urge President Obama to approve our request quickly."

Kudos to Governor Perry for begging for help. It takes a strong leader to admit that he simply cannot function without the help of the Federal Government. Perhaps Texas can achieve a much higher level of preparedness to respond to emergencies by raising taxes?
