We already know that the Trump regime is not ready for the House oversight process. What we saw today was that the staffers who know how Washington D.C. works decided to put the acting Attorney General of the United States of America through the wringer today:
Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker and the powerful head of the House Judiciary Committee found themselves in a high-stakes jousting match on Capitol Hill on Friday morning. The issue: Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
Toward the end of his opening round of questions, Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) pressed Whitaker on if he had ever been asked to approve any moves by Mueller’s team.
“Mr. Chairman, I see that your five minutes is up,” Whitaker replied. “I’m here voluntarily. I agreed to five-minute rounds.”
People in the audience and members of Congress gasped, bug-eyed and slack-jawed. Nadler kept pushing.
Whoever is advising Whitaker did this on purpose because no one could be this bad at their job. A witness who appears before Congress is at the mercy of the chairman who holds the gavel. The first thing you tell your boss is, “don’t piss off the chairman or everything will go sideways on you fast.”
Whitaker failed to assure the American people that he is not a toady. He is Trump’s bitch boy, and he knows good and well that his efforts to stymie the Mueller investigation have failed because everyone working against him at the Justice Department figured him out weeks ago. He’s an incompetent boob who is trying to carry water for Trump, and that will be his legacy as a public servant. Today’s performance guaranteed that.
