Republicans, Enjoy Your Doom

This is a Republican president talking about fellow Republicans in public:

Donald Trump has accused Andrew McCabe and Rod Rosenstein of plotting treason against him. Former acting FBI Director McCabe has been drip-feeding revelations from his new book to the media over the past few weeks, including an assertion that Trump's decision to fire Comey in May 2017 sparked so much alarm within the agency that it led to discussions about invoking the 25th Amendment to remove him as president. He also claimed that Trump said he trusted Vladimir Putin more than U.S. intelligence when it came to the question of whether North Korean had the capability to hit the U.S. with ballistic missiles. Tweeting Monday morning, Trump said: “Wow, so many lies by now disgraced acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe. He was fired for lying, and now his story gets even more deranged. He and Rod Rosenstein, who was hired by Jeff Sessions (another beauty), look like they were planning a very illegal act, and got caught ... There is a lot of explaining to do to the millions of people who had just elected a president who they really like and who has done a great job for them with the Military, Vets, Economy and so much more. This was the illegal and treasonous ‘insurance policy’ in full action!”

Reagan’s 11th Commandment no longer applies. But here’s a replacement for it—Trump’s 11th Commandment is, “always accuse your opponents of doing what you are guilty of”

It’s not treason to invoke the 25th Amendment. It is actually the correct application of American rules and norms. The problem is, we lack any clear precedent for how it should be applied to a sufferer of dementia who is surrounded by a cabal of enablers. I swear to God, if President Obama had ever had a really bad case of the flu, you’d have seen the GOP senate caucus invoking the 25th.

What is so frustrating about the media is that, if these were all Democrats, their tired old lines about “Dems in Disarray!” would be everywhere. But, no—this is a sitting president destroying every single norm that exists because he is being dragged inexorably to his doom. And the GOP is going to meet doom with him because they’re too afraid of their dwindling, rage-a-holic base.

Fuck y’all. I don’t feel sorry for any of them. I will note for the record that Comey, McCabe and Rosenstein should have been better at their jobs and that they are not heroes. They failed to preserve our democracy and they failed to protect America from being taken over by a foreign-influenced enemy of decency and the rule of law.
