I think Nancy Pelosi is way out ahead of everyone with regards to whether or not Trump should be impeached:

It was Michael Cohen’s day on Capitol Hill, but Democrats are still waiting for Robert Mueller.

Donald Trump’s former lawyer leveled a raft of explosive allegations against the president Wednesday, but Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her leadership team are in no hurry to launch impeachment proceedings.

Instead, they’re still waiting to see what the special counsel turns up.

Pelosi largely sidestepped questions about Cohen’s testimony on Wednesday, declaring that she had been too busy to watch the hours-long grilling he received from her members on the House Oversight Committee.

“I haven’t seen one word of it. If I have a statement, you’ll be the first to know,” the California Democrat told reporters as she walked into the House chamber for floor votes. “Let me say this. I care a lot more about the bad policies of Donald Trump than his bad personality.”

What good would it do, ultimately, to impeach Trump in the House and then have his firewall of supporters in the Senate protect him and keep him in office?

There is nothing on Earth that will move more than a dozen Republican Senators. Name the ones who will go against Trump. You can’t name more than a half of a dozen. The rest will shore up his flank and keep him in office. As much as they might like a Pence presidency, they know it’s over. They know 2020 will be a bloodbath. There is all of 2019 and the calendar year of 2020 left to loot the treasury, stack the courts, gut the country, and please the uber-wealthy donors that allowed the GOP to keep the Senate. Why risk the wrath of Trump’s base now?

The smart political play is to let Trump ruin the GOP’s chances of holding onto the Senate as he drags himself inexorably to his own fate, which is that of indictment and eventual conviction for any of a number of felonies that will be stacked up against him when he leaves office. I know that creates a lot of pain and suffering between now and January 2021. I would like to see the whole lot of them swept out of office and everything handed over to Nancy Pelosi for safe keeping. But there just aren’t the votes to remove Trump and then Pence.

You want real recovery and change? Elect Democrats. Everywhere. Anything else just empowers the Trump regime.

The more the country hears about Trump’s lawlessness the better. Even the hardest of hearts are beginning to see they were conned. Their shame is a good thing. The people screaming about their tax returns know what the deal is, even if they can’t quite articulate what they think. This is still an unbelievably racist country, one that prefers a philandering felon in office over anything else because of the nominal R next to Trump’s name.

Unfortunately, it’s not a country ready to throw Trump out of office. It would be great if we could unite behind that idea, but I don’t see it happening.

The Law and Order Party

Pukes like Matt Gaetz serve in Congress because the Republican Party is now a lawless entity, unmoored to community, civic duty, and decency. Whatever craven thing Trump wants to pillage or fuck in public, the GOP is all for it so long as there’s a reach around for the trash serving in the House.

Gaetz would, in any other era, be forced to resign for what he tweeted out today. If he was a Democrat, he’d be Public Enemy Number One, as witnessed by any of a number of faux controversies regarding the women who serve in the House who have experienced their own media-induced outrage scandals.

Tell me how anything they’ve done holds a candle to outright witness tampering and intimidation of a witness before Congress. Tell me we’re in anything other than nightmare right now.

The law means nothing to Republicans.

The law is simply a thing that keeps Trump from doing what they want him to do.

They ignore it, they abuse it, they mess with it, and they trample on it because they never, ever believed in the idea of America to begin with.

She Lives Inside of Their Heads

Do you know where this woman lives?

She lives inside of the heads of her enemies:

She may be America’s most famous freshman congresswoman, but in New York, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a virtual ghost.

She has no district office and no local phone number, unlike the state’s three other freshman members.

And it’s unclear whether the 29-year-old lawmaker, who represents the Bronx and Queens, actually still lives in the Parkchester neighborhood that has been so closely tied to her rise — even though she won her upset victory over fellow Democrat Rep. Joe Crowley with accusations that his home in Virginia made him too Washington-focused to serve his district.

Ocasio-Cortez has used her deceased father’s Bronx condo on her voter registration since 2012, and even posed in the one-bedroom Bronx flat for celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz in a Vogue magazine profile after her stunning November election. But The Post could find little indication she continues to live there.

The Post e-mailed the Ocasio-Cortez’ spokesman, Corbin Trent, four times with specific questions — they were all ignored. On Saturday, The Post reached Corbin by phone.

“We will not be commenting,” he said. Among the queries he refused to answer: Where does the congresswoman live?

Who cares?

If you’re a Republican, like Steve King of Iowa, you can be the filthiest, most racist bastard alive and no one questions your legitimacy to serve. You can be Duncan Hunter, so self-evidently corrupt as to be a walking, talking caricature of a lawmaker. You can be Devin Nunes, so blatantly self-serving and compromised by his affiliation with Trump as to be simply ridiculous. If you’re a Republican, you can be the worst human being alive and treat people like shit and your reward is to get re-elected after being feted by the goddamned media.

If you’re a young woman representing a liberal and progressive part of the country, you have no legitimacy. I’m sure we’ll hear about how Ocasio-Cortez wasn’t born here, or has three legs, or something stupid like that.

If there’s one thing I’m sick of, it’s that there can’t be liberal or progressive voices out there who are legitimately-elected patriotic Americans who love this country and want to serve the people who sent them to Washington D.C.

Defunding Planned Parenthood

This is the kind of thing that gets lost in the shuffle on a weekend:

The US Department of Health and Human Services issued its draft final rule to revise the Title X family planning program Friday, jeopardizing a decades-old program that serves millions of low-income people, critics say.

Title X, established in 1970, provides more than $250 million in funding for birth control and other reproductive health care services to approximately 4 million people every year.

Central to opponents' concerns about the rule are provisions that prohibit health care providers who receive federal funding from performing abortions or even referring patients elsewhere for the procedure.

"This rule intentionally strikes at the heart of the patient-provider relationship, inserting political ideology into a family planning visit, which will frustrate and ultimately discourage patients from seeking the health care they need," said Clare Coleman, president and CEO of the National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association.

"This clear attack on family planning care could result in lower-quality care or none at all for people struggling to make ends meet," added Coleman, whose organization represents publicly funded family planning providers and administrators.

Trump has to keep his rabid base happy, and this certainly helps him stoke their hatred of the possibility that some poor young person of color might end up getting taken care of in a Planned Parenthood facility.

You may have been watching the Dirtbag Olympics on television when this came out, or you may have been distracted by all of the drama surrounding the president, his fixer, and the possibility that he paid off more porn stars. But this is the sort of thing that has a dramatic impact on people’s lives. This is the sort of thing that will actually kill people. The denial of access to health care results in people dying in the doorways of emergency rooms, which are already struggling to deal with everything else that is going wrong in America right now.

Every day, we have to fight to keep Planned Parenthood open. Millions of people depend on it for basic needs. This is the fight every Democratic candidate for president should be ready for.

The Mueller Report

If you’ve been paying attention, the Mueller Report is pretty much out there already, and everything is in plain sight:

President Trump has benefited enormously from the frog-in-hot-water nature of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation into his campaign and possible overlap with Russian efforts to influence the 2016 election.

Imagine if, instead of Mueller releasing new public indictments as he went along, leveraging criminal charges to obtain more information from the targets of his probe, he instead had kept his information private. Imagine if he and his lawyers had been working in quiet for 20 months, submitting expenses to the Department of Justice and suffering the president’s tweeted ferocity.

And then, after all of that, they suddenly produced a dozen indictments and plea deals running into hundreds of pages, detailing former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort’s illegal and questionable financial dealings, those of his deputy Rick Gates, full details of Russia’s alleged efforts to influence social media and to steal electronic information from Democratic targets and detailed a half-dozen people who admitted to lying to federal investigators.

Step back for a minute and think about two things.

One, we have never fully grasped how bad this is. We’ve seen bombshell revelations come, one after the other, and that’s not enough? In any other era in political history, Trump would have been forced to resign in shame. He is enabled by a media that gets fat and rich off the outrage that is produced by telling everyone how awful Trump really is. The media is your real enemy here because they have failed to help people grasp the lawlessness of the 2016 election. They hated Hillary so much, they were happy to let someone take over the presidency because they knew it would be a monstrous spectacle. Our media chose profit over civic responsibility. I’d be happy to see FCC licenses pulled for stations profiting off outrage.

Two, no Democrat would have ever been allowed to do anything Trump has done. That’s the double standard at work. Mueller probably understands that better than anyone, and this has forced his probe to work backwards in secrecy. They knew on day one there was collusion—a conspiracy to defraud the American people and steal a presidential election. Everything else has been about creating the legal framework to put these fuckers in prison. If you elect Republicans, they break the law. It’s that simple.

I don’t care what the Mueller Report says. There is no political will to impeach and then remove Trump. It would be the smart play for Democrats to let him continue to run wild through the tangles of the rule of law and then win the presidency back in dramatic fashion. As soon as a new president is sworn in, she should let the Justice Department deal with him and his family like they would any other American crime syndicate. Our elites failed to stop Trump, so now we have to let career lawyers and prosecutors apply the law fairly to the Trump family. That’s the one sane way out of this mess.

America needs to flush out this filth and get back to being a somewhat boring and normalized, functioning democracy. And if CNN and the rest go out of business because of that, so be it.

I have never expected Robert Mueller to have to save the country. I expected that he would do his job and go home. You have to save this country. You have to vote. I have to vote. If we don't choose the right person for the job in 2020, then no one is going to save us.

Republicans, Enjoy Your Doom

This is a Republican president talking about fellow Republicans in public:

Donald Trump has accused Andrew McCabe and Rod Rosenstein of plotting treason against him. Former acting FBI Director McCabe has been drip-feeding revelations from his new book to the media over the past few weeks, including an assertion that Trump's decision to fire Comey in May 2017 sparked so much alarm within the agency that it led to discussions about invoking the 25th Amendment to remove him as president. He also claimed that Trump said he trusted Vladimir Putin more than U.S. intelligence when it came to the question of whether North Korean had the capability to hit the U.S. with ballistic missiles. Tweeting Monday morning, Trump said: “Wow, so many lies by now disgraced acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe. He was fired for lying, and now his story gets even more deranged. He and Rod Rosenstein, who was hired by Jeff Sessions (another beauty), look like they were planning a very illegal act, and got caught ... There is a lot of explaining to do to the millions of people who had just elected a president who they really like and who has done a great job for them with the Military, Vets, Economy and so much more. This was the illegal and treasonous ‘insurance policy’ in full action!”

Reagan’s 11th Commandment no longer applies. But here’s a replacement for it—Trump’s 11th Commandment is, “always accuse your opponents of doing what you are guilty of”

It’s not treason to invoke the 25th Amendment. It is actually the correct application of American rules and norms. The problem is, we lack any clear precedent for how it should be applied to a sufferer of dementia who is surrounded by a cabal of enablers. I swear to God, if President Obama had ever had a really bad case of the flu, you’d have seen the GOP senate caucus invoking the 25th.

What is so frustrating about the media is that, if these were all Democrats, their tired old lines about “Dems in Disarray!” would be everywhere. But, no—this is a sitting president destroying every single norm that exists because he is being dragged inexorably to his doom. And the GOP is going to meet doom with him because they’re too afraid of their dwindling, rage-a-holic base.

Fuck y’all. I don’t feel sorry for any of them. I will note for the record that Comey, McCabe and Rosenstein should have been better at their jobs and that they are not heroes. They failed to preserve our democracy and they failed to protect America from being taken over by a foreign-influenced enemy of decency and the rule of law.

Area Man Fails to Understand Gag Order

Roger Stone should be in jail.

Trump’s longtime confidant Roger Stone on Monday attacked the federal judge presiding over his criminal case in the special counsel’s Russia probe.

In an Instagram post, Stone lashed out at U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson.

“Through legal trickery Deep State hitman Robert Mueller has guaranteed that my upcoming show trial is before Judge Amy Berman Jackson , an Obama appointed Judge who dismissed the Benghazi charges again Hillary Clinton [sic] and incarcerated Paul Manafort prior to his conviction for any crime,” he wrote. Stone then asked for donations.

The Guardian’s Jon Swaine noted that the picture Stone posted on Instagram placed crosshairs next to Jackson’s head.

The offending post is here:

Polite society would be safer and better off in the long run if Roger Stone was locked up. He knows exactly what he’s doing and there isn’t anything innocent about what he does.

Aren’t we done with this asshole yet? Are supposed to suffer these people from now until who knows when? Electing a Democrat president won’t make them go away. Stone is the cockroach of political consultants. Someone will take up his mantle long after he’s gone and inject filth like this into our society.

Bill Cosby is Pathetic

There were a lot of myths created around Bill Cosby. For one, granting him some sort of doctorate was a way of establishing his credentials in the world of Telling People What to Do. Cosby worshipped himself, and wanted to Tell People What to Do with their lives. He gave speeches and had people work with him to produce books that would allow him to be the arbiter of how people should live their lives.

Another myth was centered around his power as an entertainer. In the late 1980s, he was at the apex of those powers, able to direct NBC to do whatever he wanted because of the revenue his show generated. But there was a long decline after that, and CBS was glad to bring him on board for a more unhappy, curmudgeonly version of Cosby that didn’t resonate with people. They wanted the legitimacy of his name and nothing more.

The most prevalent myth was that of Cosby as a great man and a great thinker. This was all built up by an establishment that wanted to use his status (even though it was greatly diminished) and ignore the troubling signs that he was a serial rapist.

What other man would compare himself to Nelson Mandela without acknowledging that the only reason why he’s in prison is because he drugged and raped women?

Convicted sex offender Bill Cosby claims he’s a “political prisoner,” likening himself to Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, or Martin Luther King Jr. in a new letter sent from prison. Cosby writes that he's locked up for his humanitarian contributions to society. “My political beliefs, my actions of trying to humanize all races, genders and religions landed me in this place surrounded by barb wire fencing, a room made of steel and iron,” the disgraced comic said in the statement released Wednesday by his spokesman Andrew Wyatt. Cosby, 81, is serving three to ten years in prison for drugging and attacking a woman in 2004. More than 60 women have accused Cosby of preying on them in a similar manner.

“I now have a temporary residence that resembles the quarters of some of the Greatest Political Prisoners–Martin Luther King, Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Randal Robinson, and Dr. Benjamin Chavis,” the letter by Cosby states. “I stand upright as a Political Prisoner and I Smile.” He went on: “I, have ‘no’ remorse and will never have remorse.”

It’s as if Cosby believes his own bullshit, isn’t it? He raped those women. He had his fame, his fortune, and his side gig of Telling People What to Do and he parlayed it into a career built on drugging and raping women. He won’t acknowledge it, his wife can’t deal with it, and the last dead-enders who support him believe that they can still salvage the multi-million dollar enterprise that is Cosby Incorporated. The syndication of his hit show is but one component. There are several other programs, and a slew of comedy albums and performances that are turning to dust because they are too toxic to touch.

There can be no rehabilitation of his reputation. He was and is and will always be a heinous monster, a man given the world who set it aside so he could stick sedatives into women by tricking them so that they would pass out and allow him to assault them and rape them.

It sickens me that there are people who will believe there were politics involved in all of this. No, it was about the drugging and raping of women who were hopeful. Cosby turned their hope into horror. He is a prisoner of his own delusions and lacks the self-awareness to come to terms with what he did with his life.

End the Private Prison Industry

I would very much like to see the Democratic candidates running for prison address the issue of private prisons in America. Here’s an article from Mother Jones that talks about GEO Group, which, on the face of it, looks like something out of a George Orwell novel:

As a congressional deal on border security funding came closer to passing yesterday, the CEO of the country’s largest private prison company told shareholders that he expects the agreement will be good news for his business. Due to the increased funding levels for immigration detention included in the deal, the GEO Group—which held nearly 1 in 3 immigration detainees as of mid-2017—will likely detain more people, George Zoley said during an earnings call.

For the past week, congressional Democrats had been pushing hard to cap the number of detention beds available to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The agency’s network of public and privately run detention centers currently holds more than 48,000 people. The Democrats were trying to force ICE to detain fewer people overall and prioritize locking up immigrants who have been convicted of serious crimes, in contrast to the Trump administration’s practice of prioritizing all unauthorized immigrants for deportation.

Democrats who run on a platform of ending the practice of throwing people into private prisons would do well to remember that this is an issue that might win them some votes. Private prisons are unethical and immoral, and amount to little more than modern-day slavery.

CNN Loves What is Happening to This Country

Correct me if I’m wrong, but CNN’s business model seems to be built on the premise that, as long as Trump is saying and doing stupid shit, they’re happy to tell you about it because your viewership matters more than anything else.

I am disgusted with the news and can barely write most days. I don’t even bother on the weekends anymore. Used to love writing about what was going on but now I’m just sick of it all. I watch the news and find myself looking at HGTV or hockey more and more.

This disconnect is not because I have a desire to stop interacting with the reality around us. It’s because far too many people are still too fucking stupid to realize what’s being done to the country. Far too many people are numb to the reality of the destruction of our democracy and the assassination of the very idea of civic responsibility. In a country where being a citizen really matters, you can’t give the facts a pass when they conflict with what you believe. You can’t ignore the reality of a Trump regime being completely out of control and flaunting their indifference to the rule of law. Republicans know exactly what’s happening but they don’t care. They know everything we know. They’re used to pretending that what Trump is doing only matters when a Democrat sniffs in the direction of doing it. So, fuck them.

This is my “fuck that shit” post for the month. I suppose I’ll figure out what to do tomorrow, but, really, fuck this shit.

Look at how stupid CNN is these days. Look at how stupid the media is in relation to the qualifications of Trump vs the qualifications of the Democrats who have announced they are running for the presidency. How many of these Democrats are going to let their son, their son-in-law, and their daughter, and their other son, and a bunch of cronies pillage the treasury for sport and laugh when you catch them doing it?

None of them are remotely corrupt or incompetent. But, to the stupid assed media, lead by CNN, they’re all on the same footing, and Amy Klobuchar yelling at a staffer or Elizabeth Warren believing what her parents told her is no different than Trump getting people killed in Syria or putting thousands of babies in cages.

This is the era of stupid, and I just get so tired of it, and I’m sure you do, too.

Relentless Stupidity Tends to Ruin Everything

I’m glad that the 2020 Election has started early because now is the time to make yourself aware of how stupid things are going to get.

Are a lot of women running for president? Yes! That means that the relentless, unyielding stupidity we saw in 2016 is back in full force. Instead of tearing into one female candidate, we can watch, in real time, the character assassination of four or five women at once.

I don’t have a candidate or a preference yet, but Amy Klobuchar, Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, and Kirsten Gillibrand would all be a thousand times better as president than any living Republican. I would enthusiastically support any one of them and vote for them over what we have now. That’s what matters. What we have, right now in this country, is a do-nothing tub of guts who is stealing everything that isn’t tied down. When they remove Trump from the White House, someone will have to count the silverware and check to see that there’s still toilet paper in the bathrooms.

Reading things like this just sets me off so I have to parse it all out and pace myself in order to deal with the mindlessness of it all:

During the 2016 election Hillary Clinton supporters responded to every criticism of their candidate — warranted and otherwise— with charges of sexism or misogyny. Didn’t like her foreign policy? You were just not ready for a female president. You found her manner condescending and patronizing? Well, that’s just pure misogyny.

That seems like a long time ago. With an overcrowded field of Democrats already jockeying for position for 2020, the knives have been sharpened and already put to use. Even before Senator Amy Klobuchar could declare her candidacy, she was getting more attention for having a bad temper and maintaining an allegedly hostile work environment than she was for her impressive legislative record.

It’s a little too soon to try and say that misogyny and hatred for Hillary Clinton because she was a woman wasn’t a major factor in her losing the electoral college. An endless stream of invective, using her gender, her appearance, her history, and whatever else was directed at a targeted population in three close states. When they weren’t making her look feeble they were insinuating every crime under the sun. When they weren’t actively targeting American voters and using Russian hackers to steal whatever was available, the Trump campaign was using voter information to manipulate public opinion.

All of this talk about how misogyny couldn’t have possibly been one factor among many is ridiculous. Of course it was part of her defeat. There was no way for someone like Trump, who lost by nearly 3 million in the popular vote, could have possibly gotten elected without using appeals to racism, hatred of immigrants, and denigration of women to motivate the worst aspects of the American electorate. No way whatsoever.

What matters is that we are living under the tyranny of a minority that has just enough advantages to render the American experiment a phony exercise in choosing between being pummeled to death or being run over by a bus. You can have rivers on fire or air you can’t breathe. You can have ruined parks or shattered forests. You can be broke or you can have a home with no value. You can have the bad part of town or you can live where the roads are gone to ruin. You can have oblivion or you can have disaster. You can suffer through horrors or you can sit back and watch them put babies in cages. You can have vinegar to drink and you can wash it down with bleach. Those are the choices we get every day—it can be bad or it can be really bad. We’re not allowed to have much of anything else.

I’m glad the Democrats are in power in one House of Congress, but, come on. Let’s get back on track and figure out what matters. Let’s find someone to lead us back to the light. I’m fucking sick of the darkness.

The Whitaker Debacle

We already know that the Trump regime is not ready for the House oversight process. What we saw today was that the staffers who know how Washington D.C. works decided to put the acting Attorney General of the United States of America through the wringer today:

Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker and the powerful head of the House Judiciary Committee found themselves in a high-stakes jousting match on Capitol Hill on Friday morning. The issue: Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

Toward the end of his opening round of questions, Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) pressed Whitaker on if he had ever been asked to approve any moves by Mueller’s team.

“Mr. Chairman, I see that your five minutes is up,” Whitaker replied. “I’m here voluntarily. I agreed to five-minute rounds.”

People in the audience and members of Congress gasped, bug-eyed and slack-jawed. Nadler kept pushing.

Whoever is advising Whitaker did this on purpose because no one could be this bad at their job. A witness who appears before Congress is at the mercy of the chairman who holds the gavel. The first thing you tell your boss is, “don’t piss off the chairman or everything will go sideways on you fast.”

Whitaker failed to assure the American people that he is not a toady. He is Trump’s bitch boy, and he knows good and well that his efforts to stymie the Mueller investigation have failed because everyone working against him at the Justice Department figured him out weeks ago. He’s an incompetent boob who is trying to carry water for Trump, and that will be his legacy as a public servant. Today’s performance guaranteed that.

America is Unified Against Trump

Everything that has happened since Trump took office has solidified Independents, moderates, and liberals against Trump and the GOP. The only dead-enders supporting Trump are that brain-dead mass that exists solely as an annoyance against progress. Fully 33 percent of the American people are never going to budge from their retrograde racism and stupidity, so all of this talk of “unifying” the American people is pure bullshit:

Donald Trump is set to deliver what his advisers claim will be a unifying State of the Union speech on Tuesday before a skeptical audience that for the first time will include a Democratic House majority.

Many of the President's past attempts at bipartisanship have quickly evaporated amid tweeted barbs and the driving issue of the day -- a $5 billion border wall -- is staunchly opposed by most Democrats and most Americans.

Trump will step into the House chamber around 9 p.m. ET with the aim of changing at least some minds on the wisdom of his policies and with his political nemesis, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, seated over his left shoulder.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi is not his nemesis because they are not intellectual equals. Trump is Pelosi’s bitch, plain and simple. She has his balls in a vise and his manhood well in hand. She is so thoroughly in control of the House that there is no hope whatsoever that Trump will get anything that resembles a solid break from her unless it is in her interests to give him one.

And even then, kicking Trump to the curb is preferable to anything else.

Who cares what Trump has to say in public? He doesn’t write his speeches, he doesn’t believe anything, he cannot hold to any deal that he makes, he cannot take responsibility for his actions and he is only opposed to whatever Democrats want to do. There’s no substance to his actions, no reason to give him anything, and no hope for his presidency. He is finished.

The media won’t tell you he’s finished, but that’s what he is. He has a sack full of ashes to show for two years in office. He has more law dogs on his ass than whoever is currently public enemy number one. Twenty years from now, they’ll still be untying the vast knots of corruption and lawbreaking that happened on his watch.

Why would anyone watch Trump talk about the State of the Union? He doesn’t even believe in this country. He doesn’t believe in the law, in democracy, in America as an idea, or in the common good. He believes his own lies, and that’s it.

Ronny Jackson Lies For Trump

After Trump has his annual physical, you can expect this guy to lie to us about the president’s health:

President Trump has chosen his former White House physician, Adm. Ronny Jackson, to resume his role as chief medical adviser. Jackson is the subject of an ongoing Pentagon investigation into allegations he haphazardly gave out medication, drank on the job, and created a hostile work environment. The allegations caused Jackson to withdraw his nomination to be Veteran Affairs secretary in June. On Friday, the White House also nominated the Navy admiral for a second star.

So the fix is in. Jackson won’t tell us Trump’s actual medical condition because that can be kept secret for national security purposes. If the Chinese knew that Trump was addicted to some substance, they would have a negotiating advantage. The same goes for Trump’s morbid obesity and cognitive decline, which are obvious to anyone with the ability to think clearly. What is frustrating about living in these times is that we can see what’s happening right in front of us, but no one dares to act on it. Jackson could find his conscience, actually examine Trump, and do the right thing.

Anyone who thinks Trump is a mere 239 pounds can be convinced of anything.

He won’t. He has little or no character, and that’s based on his actions, going back to the Obama era. I suppose Jackson is taking the job because it is easier to hide behind Trump than it is to answer for being drunk on duty and a terrible leader.

Go Ahead and Resign Already, Jeez

I’m not here to have a bullshit argument about whether or not someone can “mature” and “change” throughout their life so that they can have a convenient excuse ready at hand when it is revealed that, when they were a fucking adult, they did crazy racist shit like Ralph Northam.

No, I’m not here to excuse what he did and look for “nuance” because he’s a guy who beat a Republican.

I’m here to say go ahead and resign:

The Richmond Times-Dispatch, the primary daily newspaper in Virginia's capital city, is calling on Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam to resign following the emergence of a racist yearbook photo he appeared in during his time in medical school.

The newspaper published an editorial on Friday night after Northam apologized in a statement. In a video released later Friday evening, Northam indicated he plans to serve out his term.

"The photograph reveals a lack of adult judgment that is disturbing. It does not erase Northam's service in the military or his compassion as a physician. It does, however, strongly suggest that he should, for the good of Virginia, step down from its highest office and allow Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax to succeed him," the editorial reads.

The photograph of Northam, which was obtained by CNN, appears in the 1984 yearbook for Eastern Virginia Medical School. It shows one person in blackface and another dressed in the Ku Klux Klan's signature white hood and robes. Northam did not say whether he was wearing the KKK outfit or blackface, but he confirmed he was in the photo, and said in a statement that the costume was "clearly racist and offensive."

Ralph Northam has known that this yearbook page was out there for thirty-five fucking years.

Thirty-five years!

And he went ahead and ran for office anyway. He did what he did knowing this would come out. He did it knowing that countless Democrats trusted him to be a candidate who could win a statewide race in a critically important mid-Atlantic state. He did it knowing he was running to be the chief executive of his state. He did it knowing that thousands of people were going to work their asses off to get him elected. He did it knowing that he would take a job where he had to run a massive operation full of people who needed to know he wasn’t compromised and damaged goods. He asked millions of people for their votes. He raised millions of dollars and accepted the nomination to run for governor knowing he had this in his background. And then he won and raised his hand and swore to be respectable and honorable on behalf of the people who voted for him and against him.

What a crock of shit. He knew this was out there, and he made a calculated decision to go ahead and expose himself to the consequences. He put his own desire for power ahead of the needs of the people of Virginia who were counting on him to not be a racist fucking douchebag.

The people in his immediate circle all knew about this, right? I’m sure he told everyone that this was out there, right? Oh, who the hell cares? They’re probably reeling right now, and there are a significant number of people who are going to have severe trust issues as a result of this.

Northam did it and he didn’t think of the tremendous distraction it would create. He did all of this and he didn’t care how it looked, what would happen when it came out, and he didn’t have an honest conversation with people before running for governor about what it meant and why it was wrong. If he had stood up and said, “this is what I did in college. I known now that it was wrong. I should have known it was wrong at the time and I should tell you about this because I have changed, I have dedicated myself to public service, and I need you to know that I did this terrible thing BEFORE you cast your vote for me so that we can start off on the right foot.”

When caught, he fell back on saying he was sorry, and he stopped short of resigning.

Well, what are you waiting for, Governor Northam? Go ahead and resign already.

In the Democratic Party, we don’t tolerate this bullshit. The governorship of one state is not worth compromising what we stand for. I believe that if we do not call for Northam’s resignation, we’re no better than the yahoos in Northwest Iowa who vote to send Steve King back to Washington every two years. We are not hypocrites. We do not fold up and shit the bed when it comes time to take a stand. We don’t equivocate and turn a blind eye and betray our principles like millions have done every day for the last three years of Trump. No, we have zero goddamned tolerance for this and we are consistent and precise with how we feel about it.

The Republican Meltdown on Foreign Policy

When you turn your country’s foreign policy over to a man who found a way to bankrupt his own casino, it is inevitable that he will end up listening to the advice of a man too stupid to realize that a Russian agent was able to get him to say nice things about Russia’s non-existent pro-gun efforts. This is the most comically inept group of human beings to ever run the national security apparatus of the United States government. They are so completely and utterly incompetent that it should cause people to flee the country in terror.

Seriously, if you’re thinking about New Zealand and a quiet place out of the Northern Hemisphere, I’m with you because holy shit:

President Donald Trump claimed Thursday that his intelligence chiefs, including Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and CIA Director Gina Haspel, told him that they were misquoted when they publicly contradicted him during public on-camera testimony.

He made the claim a day after he tweeted that "Intelligence should go back to school!"

"They said they were totally misquoted and totally taken out of context," Trump said when asked by CNN if he raised the testimony with Coats and Haspel during his daily briefing on Thursday.

"They said it was fake news," Trump said.

The President did not provide examples of the areas the intelligence chiefs said they were misquoted. Their testimony was televised, and their written assessment of global threats was made public.

Trump chastises intel chiefs after they contradict him on Iran and claims of foreign policy success

Trump followed up those comments with a tweet insisting that Coats and Haspel told him their testimony was distorted by the press and that they are all on the same page.

The Republican Party has completely and utterly failed to save Trump from himself. They have failed to compel him to understand that we are spending untold billions of dollars to gather, organize, and analyze an almost incomprehensible amount of intelligence that is being ignored.

You could shut down the community of agencies that are gathering information on our enemies because it is not being utilized, internalized, or comprehended in any way by this regime. And it is a regime in every sense of the word. They do not recognize any norms, anything resembling the law, and they do not live in a fact-based, evidence-rich world. If it contradicts what John Bolton wants to believe about the world, it won’t get anywhere near Trump and it won’t be used by anyone setting the foreign policy of the country because it will, in fact, die in the hands of the National Security Council. This is the information-free era of American politics. Bolton is making sure Trump sees and hears nothing of value or importance. This is especially SAD! because you're paying billions of dollars in taxes to collect, store, and analyze everything that Trump will never, ever see.

Actual shit that is really happening is being ignored because the National Security Advisor knows that Trump doesn’t want to be told anything.

This has created a credibility meltdown. The Republican Party isn’t in charge because Trump doesn’t listen to them or care what happens to them when they come up for re-election. Their plight means nothing to him. The dangers creeping in all around us from our enemies mean nothing because, unless someone threatens his ego or his wallet, you’re on your own. Trump is barely showing up for work each day and our foreign policy is collapsing.

In a few years, there will be Republican Senators who will get up and criticize the decisions that a Democratic president is making and, in a just world, they would be laughed at and mocked because where were you when Trump was doing things a thousand times worse?

Don’t worry about their inflated sense of self-importance. Republicans are never held to the same standards that Democrats are forced to adhere to. The media will cover for them and allow them to have all of their credibility back because they love a GOP daddy who mansplains everything.
