There is a Massive Disinformation Campaign Underway Right Now

If you spend a reasonable amount of time watching the efforts of the conservative movement in this country, it is impossible not to spot the fact that we are re-living the summer of 2016. A massive campaign of disinformation and deception is underway all around us, but we are only seeing the face of it.

I truly believe the Russian attack on our election in 2018 will just be a re-tread of two years ago, only, this time, those poor kids in the Balkans won't get their $700 checks from Google as often.

Representative Swalwell is fighting a losing battle. He wants to change the "hearts and minds" of the people who watch Fox News. It's not going to happen.

How old were you when you realized adults were full of shit? That people were weak and didn't change? Did you know any drug addicts? Far too many of them have to go to rehab five, six, seven times before they finally admit that they're drug addicts and need to stop. Drinkers rarely stop drinking, and gambling addicts are wrapped up in their own bullshit. I have never met any sex addicts, but I hear they are ridiculous and boring.

Trump voters are the people among us who always let everyone down when they get on the wagon and fall off of it the next day, taking our loaned car with them into the tree of destiny. They always run off with your last hundred bucks, and they rarely have a good time with it. Usually, they buy the wrong size bag of chips and the worst liquor they can find and blow the rest on fallow lottery tickets. Goddamn them, why do we keep trying to find the patience to wait and see if they change?

They're not going to change. They're going to keep voting for the daddy/asshole/white supremacist that comes after Trump.

Fuck them.

Oh, sure. Some people wise up and put themselves back together. Some people wake up and know they did something wrong. There are always exceptions to the rule. They're going to have to figure it out for themselves and change their own closely-held opinions. Don't hold out any hope of that. This would require being a mature adult. Good luck finding them. They're rare, but they're out there.

Americans hate to admit that they have been fooled or hoodwinked. In 1975, how many proud Nixon voters could you have found? Probably more than a few, but they would have been cranks or weirdos. The country we live in has a memory hole large enough to swallow the Trump era, too. In a few years, it'll be like walking into the American Legion and meeting twelve Medal of Honor winners who just happened to have all been Special Forces and definitely not rear-area malcontents who got kicked out for masturbating in the guard shack. You won't be able to find a Trump voter anywhere.

And, to be fair, there weren't that many. The tyranny of the minority ruled the day.

Do Not Mock the Dictator of America

I have no way of knowing if this is true or not, but I had to find one way to start a blog post that I hadn't used in several days, so here you go (UPDATE - Melendez is a serial liar and an unfunny fool--a philosopher of these times, in other words).

If the fellow known as "Stuttering John" really did prank Trump, then good for him. He is an American citizen with First Amendment rights. Yes, you can prank the president and claim free speech. It does not protect you from getting fired or being boycotted, however. People are free to look at this guy and decide whether or not his efforts have succeeded in the marketplace of ideas. Was it dumb? No, it was probably a belly-shaking good laugh for John Melendez. Was it smart? No, because we live in a dictatorship now.

Yes, the dictator has taken over (not really, but it's fun to think that we are already living through Trump's second term, according to the prognostications of Michael Moore).

There are few, if any, good satirists out there. I'm sure they'll put a muzzle on Stephen Colbert before the end of the year. The rest of them will fall in line. In the Sixties and Seventies, we had great satirists. Now, we have people who are brand aware who will suddenly start talking about airline food and long lines at the Apple store and hey, where can you get the news these days?

Are there courts that can stop Trump? Well, for a while, sure. But the Supreme Court will soon be in the hands of a radical, fact-free conservative minority that has a bug up its ass about taking away the rights of women. Oh, I bet you thought this post was about all of those white women who voted for Trump. Their private parts were a subject of great consternation almost two years ago. In less time than that, they will no longer have to worry about them, because the government will take ownership, courtesy of the dictator.

A smart person would take down their social media and run their blogs and websites and other forms of expression down into the ether, and delete everything. If they can come and arrest you in your home because you got the half-witted son-in-law to put your call through to the even less witted president, well, you're obviously a subversive who needs to be put in a jail cell until a camp for you can be built in the sweltering heat of the desert Southwest. There are plenty of Republicans in those states, and they won't say a word when the camps crop up in the middle of no where. They'll be just like all the good Germans, and no one will notice how things are going out there.

America is finally going to get a taste of what everyone else has had to eat for the last few hundred years. This Republican Congress, in exchange for donations from overfed penny pinchers that wouldn't add up to the price of a used car, has sold itself down the river for a banana republic hefe who will NOT BE MOCKED.

You best get to deleting.

This guy can start with his account:

Definitely a friend of Donald Trump. What an asshole.

Someone is Carrying Out Hate Crimes in Kansas City

Here's another aspect of living in Trump's America that people are probably not paying too much attention to because the whole country is burning down around us:

Since its founding in 1990, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, Missouri, hadn't had any serious issues with vandalism—until last week, when its Buck O'Neil Education and Research Center was flooded after a water line on the second floor was cut and the water was turned on, dousing not just the second floor, but the first floor and basement as well.

One month prior, another Kansas City Negro Leagues landmark faced a similarly catastrophic crime: A suspected arsonist set the home of pitching legend Satchel Paige on fire in late May, leaving potentially irreparable damage. Both cases were far more serious than the graffiti tagging that typically plagues out-of-use buildings.

So, the history of the Negro Leagues Baseball is being vandalized and going up in flames and it may or may not be a hate crime. An accelerant was used to burn down Paige's home. This looks like targeted hate to me. This is the sort of story that would have been huge news several years ago. Now, it fades into the background, all but ignored because of more pressing issues.

And I get that--it's not the biggest thing happening today, but it's a terrible shame and a stain on our society because someone has likely felt like it is okay to start going after one part of the history of African-Americans in this country. It's not enough that they're attacking our democracy and that they're going after people online and in the public spaces of this country. We have real, actual Nazis who are butt-hurt that their demonstrations are sparsely attended. Americans have unleashed their inner bigot and are saying horrible things to perfect strangers. It's shocking how much incivility there is, but then again, it isn't because this has been let loose by the publicly spewed mouth diarrhea of Donald Trump.

These museums and historic sites are no threat to anyone--they're simple, dignified places that constitute part of our sporting history that deserves to be remember for what it commemorates. The men who played for those teams laid the groundwork for the transformation of baseball, suffering untold indignities for being excluded from an all-white sport. What made this a better country was the normalization of the idea that everyone should be allowed to play ball, regardless of their skin color. Someone wants to degrade that and foul our memories and burn it all up.

If someone is doing this purely out of hate, then this is on Trump's head. Hate crimes have always been a part of our social fabric, but in this era, this hate is fed by the absolute worst example of a leader and the most irresponsible rhetoric anyone has ever seen.

It Has Always Been About the Collusion of Trump and Russia

The Special Counsel is eventually going to prove that Trump stole the election. How are we, as a nation, going to deal with that?

Special Counsel Robert Mueller is preparing to accelerate his probe into possible collusion between Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and Russians who sought to interfere in the 2016 election, according to a person familiar with the investigation.

Mueller and his team of prosecutors and investigators have an eye toward producing conclusions -- and possible indictments -- related to collusion by fall, said the person, who asked not to be identified. He’ll be able to turn his full attention to the issue as he resolves other questions, including deciding soon whether to find that Trump sought to obstruct justice.

Mueller’s office declined to comment on his plans.

Suspicious contacts between at least 13 people associated with Trump’s presidential campaign and Russians have fueled the debate over collusion.

Some of those encounters have been known for months: the Russian ambassador whose conversations forced Attorney General Jeff Sessions to recuse himself from overseeing the Russia investigation and led Michael Flynn to plead guilty to lying to the FBI. The Russians who wangled a meeting with Donald Trump Jr. at Trump Tower in July 2016 after dangling the promise of political dirt on Democrat Hillary Clinton.

I have a good guess about all of this, and it begins and ends with Republicans throwing their hands in the air and doing nothing about it. They have no courage, and they have no decency, so this could all end up being an exercise in futility. Mueller could prove that the election was stolen and Republicans would shoulder shrug themselves to the door.

The GOP will find some way to justify denying Hillary Clinton the presidency. They can point to Chicago in 1960, when the dead rose up and voted for Kennedy because Mayor Richard Daley had the machine to make it happen. They can point to the Brooks Brothers riot in Florida during the 2000 election. The theft of that election, and the subsequent chicanery that went down in Ohio in 2004 will go down as proof Republicans can't win an honest election anymore for the presidency. And I would argue that Bush vs Gore was worse than Trump & Putin vs Clinton any day of the week in terms of lives lost and opportunities wasted.

This is why I don't think Mueller is going to be allowed to save us. Both parties would have to accept his findings. We already know Republicans won't do the right thing, ever.

And this is because there is a structural problem with our democracy that has to be fixed. Republicans have to suppress the vote and Gerrymander their way to victory in far too many states right now, and they have a Supreme Court that has been bought and paid for that will help them do that for the next twenty years if people continue to accept the situation that we're in. Public reaction to the malfeasance of the Roberts court has to be swift and devastating. Every Senator who voted for Neil Gorsuch needs to be thrown out of office when the time is right. That would be Joe Manchin, Heidi Heitkamp, and Joseph Donnelly, who will go down as collaborators with a corrupt and compromised system run by fools.

You gotta save yourself. You have to vote and you have to make that vote count. You have to push against the entirety of the Republican election stealing machine from now on. You have to realize that the tide will turn eventually, and these scum will be thrown out of office when the whole thing comes crashing down around them. Will it happen this year? Or in 2020?

God, I hope so.

What Were You Saying About Civility?

I have lived long enough to see the President of the United States of America question whether or not a sitting United States Senator is drunk because they're getting close to uncovering all of the laws that were broken in order to steal an election.

Do you get the sense that there is going to be a breaking point, and that it's coming soon, and once this breaks, we're not going to be able to put this country back together? I get the sense that there is no bottom, and we haven't even begun to see the worst of Trump yet.

That's a sobering thought, but, goddamn. What the hell is this even about anymore?

What was that they were saying about civility this morning? I can't even remember.

Mad Dog Mattis

This sort of hit piece only appears when someone in the Trump Regime has decided to put a steak knife in someone's back so they can feel good about themselves:

Defense Secretary James Mattis learned in May from a colleague that President Donald Trump had made the decision to withdraw the U.S. from the Iran nuclear deal, and scrambled to get his boss on the phone before a formal announcement was made. It wouldn't be the last time he was caught off guard by a presidential announcement.

A month later, Mattis was informed that Trump had ordered a pause in U.S. military exercises with South Korea only after the president had already promised the concession to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Last week, Trump again blindsided and overruled his defense secretary by publicly directing the Pentagon to create a sixth military branch overseeing operations in space.

Mattis has survived largely because he doesn't mind being made to look like a chump in public by people who, in any other era in American politics, wouldn't get close enough to him to mutter his stupid nickname. He is no John Kelly, who would have debased himself to get close to Trump even if he had lost in 2016. He is far superior to H. R. McMaster because I have no evidence that Mattis has sold his credibility to the highest bidder in order to spend his days watching everything he ever wrote come back to haunt him. Mattis is the guy who stays out of the way while everything turns to shit around him, thinking that if his boots are still clean there must not be anything wrong.

Everyone who works for Trump has to learn that sinking to the lowest common denominator and behaving like a simpering buffoon around the boss is their only requirement. They don't have to have talent because that would work against them. They can be good on television, but they better not be too good. They can run their version of the shitshow any way they like, but they better not go against Trump.

Mattis stays in his lane and, when blindsided by the White House, pretends like nothing happened. When the "space force" was "created" in the cobweb-strewn horrors of Trump's desperate mind, he should have quit on the spot and told everyone that Trump is nuts.

Mattis was supposed to be one of the adults in the room. Someone has clearly decided that humiliating him and driving him out of his job is the way to accomplish their own sickening goals. We're going to end up with a Secretary of Defense who is going to be unqualified and ridiculous before you know it.

Due Process Just Gets in the Way

Trump is relentlessly stupid and no one around him is even trying to get him to stop saying crazy shit like this anymore:

President Donald Trump on Sunday called for the US to deport people without judicial proceedings, referred to an invasion by "these people" and railed against standing immigration laws.

"We cannot allow all of these people to invade our Country. When somebody comes in, we must immediately, with no Judges or Court Cases, bring them back from where they came. Our system is a mockery to good immigration policy and Law and Order. Most children come without parents..." Trump tweeted.

In a follow-up tweet, Trump said immigration policy in the US is "laughed at all over the world," and "is very unfair to all of those people who have gone through the system legally and are waiting on line for years! Immigration must be based on merit."

The dictator acts without regard to judges and court cases. The dictator puts himself above all others. The dictator does this because he is being enabled by far too many so-called Americans who have no idea what they're really buying into anymore.

It's difficult enough, trying to wrap your head around how Trump can get away with casually dismissing the justice system, our laws, and the concept of due process. He's not screaming into the void with this. He is saying this because he knows there are plenty of Republicans who love what he's doing to minorities and plenty of lawmakers who are incapable of standing up to him. The door is wide open to an American dictatorship, wrapped in Jesus and the American flag, and Republicans are just begging for a chance to see liberals driven into camps and immigrants machine gunned on the border. They want this country to burn down because they think it will mean that it lead to lower taxes and cheaper guns. They don't understand simple math, science, economics, or common sense but they know they love owning the libs.

Fortunately for all of us, this stupidity will not prevail. Sensible people are now fully awake to this and are ready to fight. The only thing left to do now is to ensure that this so-called president is mocked, every day, for his ignorance and his venality.

Your Cotton-Picking Mind

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="606.0"] David Bossie David Bossie [/caption]

The racist apparatus that is propping up the failed Trump Regime isn't even trying to hide their racism anymore:

David Bossie, President Trump’s former deputy campaign manager and a contributor on Fox News, used a racial insult on Sunday to respond to accusations of racism in the Trump administration. In a heated exchange on Fox and Friends with Democratic strategist Joel Payne, who is black, Bossie told him, “You’re out of your cotton-picking mind.” The insult came right after Payne accused Trump and other White House officials of using coded racism to appeal to their base. Fox News host Ed Henry immediately apologized to viewers for Bossie’s remarks. “I just want to address what just happened in that debate—obviously got fiery. David Bossie used a phrase that clearly offended Joel Payne and offended many others. I don’t know what David meant by it,” he said. A Fox News spokesperson later issued a statement denouncing Bossie’s remarks as “deeply offensive and wholly inappropriate.” Bossie also offered an apology on Twitter, saying he “should have never used the offensive phrase that I did.”

But, do go on about incivility, my good man.

If you are not animated by a desire to hurl this filth back into the hole out of which it crawled, then I have no use for you as an American. This is why we fight, use harsh language, and work our asses off to make this a better country--so that Trumpism is destroyed and the retrograde backwoods asses like Bossie are shamed out of public life once and for Goddamned all.

They Are Putting Babies in Jail

It's been several days, but I still can't get over this.

They're putting babies in jail!

As of today, there are 2,458 children under the age of 13 — also described by the US federal government as "tender age" children — in the care of the Department of Health and Human Services, according to an HHS spokesman.

That number includes:

482 children age 5 and younger

1,976 children age 6 through 12

The total number of “unaccompanied alien children” in HHS custody as of this week is over 11,600. (It fluctuates daily.)

An important to note: HHS cares for both separated children and children who came here alone, and the numbers above are for all total children, not specifically those separated from their parents.

While it can be inferred that most "tender age" children are likely to be separated from their parents (because it is hard to come to the US alone at such a young age), there are also other circumstances — like a teenager bringing a young sibling, or even his or her own child.

Does any of this look like care to you? Care implies someone is using time and effort and resources to ensure kids are not being left to fend for themselves. What I see are kids being bused and flown around the country in borrowed clothes, separated from parents or siblings, and abandoned by an indifferent bureaucracy. I see cages and I read about kids being injected with drugs to calm them and turn them into zombies.

What the ever loving fuck?

Let's stop using this polite and imprecise euphemism of "tender age." Stop coming at me with this bullshit. There is no care being applied here, and the use of the word "custody" is proof that what we really have here is a system designed to break and punish babies.

Babies.

They're putting babies in fucking jail. Accompanied or unaccompanied, it does not matter. They are putting them in cages. Sometimes with their parents, sometimes without their parents. There are hundreds of millions of dollars, if not several billion dollars, being spent to do this and that means our elected representatives should have access to these facilities any time they want to check them out.

This is all because Republicans can't govern. Want proof they are too incompetent to do anything?

There you go. I don't know how you can stop being outraged about this. It's not a one or two day story. We cannot let this slip from view. These kids will disappear into a system. In ten years, you're read about how hundreds if not thousands of kids were lost and abandoned and left to rot in a system that will have to be rebuilt or reconstructed to handle their needs.

Babies in jail? Who the fuck ever thought that was gonna happen?

Well, everyone who voted for Hillary. But still.

Time Magazine, July 2 Issue

There is nothing subtle about this:

John Moore, a Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer for Getty Images, has been photographing immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border for years. This week one of his pictures became the most visible symbol of the immigration debate in America.

“This one was tough for me. As soon as it was over, they were put into a van. I had to stop and take deep breaths,” Moore told TIME Tuesday, describing his reaction to the scene of a two-year-old Honduran girl crying as her mother was being detained in McAllen, Texas. “All I wanted to do was pick her up. But I couldn’t.”

I have to say that I am floored by this image, which has this juxtaposition of helplessness and indifference to suffering that practically defines Trump. How do you get away from how devastatingly negative this is? It really speaks to the fact that this is a crisis Trump created through a combination of evil and incompetence that will serve as the main theme of his criminal administration. If you had told me a year ago Trump and his legion of error were going to put babies in jail and commit recklessly stupid and unnecessary crimes against humanity in order to appeal to their base, well, I probably would have believed you because there's nothing they won't do to hold on to power.

They will tear human beings to pieces. They will ruin lives as casually as they will steal the last dollar from a broken charity filled with empty promises. They will come down on the side of white supremacy every time. They'll blame Obama for everything. They will not go without a fight. And we must fight them.

We must fight them and we must finish them or democracy will die.

Texas is About to Turn Blue

This is not quite the eliminationist rhetoric we have come to expect from today's conservatives, but it's darn close to being offensive if it wasn't already a ridiculous and expensive gesture. I'm glad that these idiots are spending their money on signs and futile gestures.

A billboard in Texas made waves on social media Tuesday after its message was posted online.

"Liberals," the billboard reads. "Please continue on I-40 until you have left our GREAT STATE OF TEXAS."

A photo of the sign was posted to Facebook by Kyle Mccallie, of Fritch. He wrote the billboard was six miles east of Vega, a city roughly 35 miles west of Amarillo, on the eastbound side of the highway.

What better proof is there that Texas is going to turn blue? We can throw Ted Cruz out on his Canadian-born ass. We can send a half dozen or more Congressmen home for good and replace them with votes to make Nancy Pelosi the Speaker of the House. We can wipe the floor with these clowns if enough people get out and vote in November.

Yeah, this is what I thought of, too:

If someone was confident about their ideas and their place in the universe, they wouldn't be putting up signs telling others to get out.

If Kids Don’t Eat in Peace, You Don’t Eat in Peace!

Nobody who serves Trump is entitled to another normal day ever again:

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was chased out of a Mexican restaurant Tuesday evening by protesters confronting her over the the Trump administration’s policy of separating migrant children from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border. Protesters crashed her meal, yelling “shame!” and “If kids don’t eat in peace, you don’t eat in peace!” while Nielsen appeared to look down at her phone before eventually exiting the restaurant. The homeland security chief has been under fire in recent days for her vociferous public defense of the administration’s “zero-tolerance” border policy.

This is the kind of activism this country needs right now. Peaceful protest and a declaration against the normalization of evil. Anyone who tolerates this is complicit in a crime against the American idea. Being able to sit down and eat your Goddamned chips and salsa is something decent people can enjoy.

Is there anyone working for Trump who even resembles decent? Hell no.

There Are No Consequences For These People

The normal thing that would happen here is that the Trump Regime would come out Monday morning with a quick apology and solution and make the issue of separating parents and children a non-story as fast as humanly possible. Hell, they should have started this process on the Sunday shows yesterday.

Nope.

These fuckers only understand one thing--when caught implementing racist, hateful policies, double down and own them so that the rabid base of what used to be the GOP can hear the dog whistle loud and clear from where they sit and stew over these things.

Like everything else, the Trump Regime's policies are lies that could be refuted by a toddler. They're not even trying anymore--they're lying because they've been caught. The only thing left to do is act like a fucking baby and cry about how unfair it is to point out that they are, in fact, just a bunch of fucking liars. This is the classic move of an abuser--it's your fault for how they are.

There never was a crisis and there never will be.

As you can plainly see from the numbers, we have no crisis here. It's fake. It's a fraud. It's being manufactured so someone can implement the policies of white supremacy.

With Trump and the goon squad around him, what other answer could there be? They're getting away with it again and again. They lie, they cheat, they steal and they implement racist policies. Every question posed to them by the media should begin with the premise that this evil, corrupt regime needs to be nailed to the fucking wall.

The Last Stand

Who do these people think they are defending us from?

A "zero tolerance" policy is a cop out of epic proportions. The individuals who are "motivated" by this policy want to shut down everyone coming into this country without any regard to the idea that there might actually be people seeking asylum in the United States of America. Their job is to figure out who is coming here because they have no other choice from the people who are coming here to sell drugs and commit crimes.

Here's a helpful hint--if they don't have any drugs or guns on them, they're probably seeking asylum and you should let them in.

We have an entirely new and difficult problem on our hands now. What do we do with the civil servants in ICE and the U.S. Border Patrol who are hell bent on criminalizing every individual who tries to enter the country? What do with do with the relentlessly pro-Trump forces inside of these agencies? I don't think anyone has an answer for that, and I'm certain that, once Democrats are back in charge of governing this country, they will have to deal with this issue.

Twilight of the Oligarchs

Can't wait for the mugshots:

President Donald Trump lashed out at "sleazy New York Democrats" on Thursday after the state's attorney general sued him, three of his children and his foundation, saying he used the charity as his "personal checkbook."

Trump vowed that he would never settle the case, brought by current Attorney General Barbara Underwood. The president took to Twitter on Thursday to blame the action on "disciples" of former Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who resigned in May after four women in a magazine article accused him of physical abuse.

"The sleazy New York Democrats, and their now disgraced (and run out of town) A.G. Eric Schneiderman, are doing everything they can to sue me on a foundation that took in $18,800,000 and gave out to charity more money than it took in, $19,200,000. I won’t settle this case!" Trump wrote on Twitter.

Underwood charged in the lawsuit that the Trump Foundation engaged in "extensive unlawful political coordination" with Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. The case, filed in the state Supreme Court in Manhattan, followed a 21-month investigation that began on Schneiderman's watch.

She said the foundation engaged in "repeated and willful self-dealing" to benefit Trump's personal, business and political interests, including a buying a portrait of Trump for $10,000 at a charity auction and using it to decorate a Trump golf course.

In any other era of American politics, this would shame a normal person out of public life. The absolute embarrassment of using a charity this way would bring recrimination and serious legal jeopardy to a human being. That can't happen here because there isn't a Trump alive who would ever feel an ounce of shame when caught stealing money. We crossed over into the sickening, corrupt era of Trumpism and now all we can do is imagine what life would be like if anything was normal.

How do you "settle" a case where you've been caught using your charitable foundation to make sweet deals for yourself and pay off liabilities? How do you make that go away? They have you dead to rights. They have papers and forms and proof you broke the law.

Which, of course, means nothing. But still. How does this happen? How does this not bring the whole rotten thing crashing down?

Yeah, What About Her Emails

This is the greatest Tweet ever.

The Face of Human Cruelty

This is being done with your tax dollars, and it is being done in your name because far too many people felt that voting for Hillary wasn't cool:

For more than a year, the old Walmart along the Mexican border here has been a mystery to those driving by on the highway. In place of the supercenter’s trademark logo hangs a curious sign: “Casa Padre.”

Subscribe to the Post Most newsletter: Today’s most popular stories on The Washington Post

But behind the sliding doors is a bustling city unto itself, equipped with classrooms, recreation centers and medical examination rooms. Casa Padre now houses more than 1,400 immigrant boys, dozens of them forcibly separated from their parents at the border by a new Trump administration “zero-tolerance” policy.

On Wednesday, for the first time since that policy was announced, and amid intense national interest after a U.S. senator was turned away, federal authorities allowed a small group of reporters to tour the secretive shelter, the largest of its kind in the nation.

This image of Trump is the personification of a cult of personality in America. It is a message to these children--you are caught, you are trapped, and now a cruel American president is going to mock your suffering and your pain with his smirk. The artist who put this up knew to include the symbol of the flag and the White House and a caricature of Trump giving his shit-eating approval for everything being done to these kids. This is how you break souls.

The symbol of Trump is so toxic that it is difficult to imagine how the Republican Party can escape association. Maybe they know they're going to sink with it, and being a party that can get 40% of the American people to support them is enough going forward. I can't imagine a situation where being linked to Trump will work for anything but criminals, racists and serial adulterers.

Everything About This is Awful

I haven't written much over the last few weeks because everything is so awful, how can you even touch what's already out there? How can you provide any kind of commentary when all you need to say is, "this is ridiculously bad, and the media has decided to stop explaining why it is so bad, so here's another useless post explaining why it's horrible."

If you didn't think you were going to live long enough to see an American president embrace a homicidal maniac of a "leader" you were mistaken. If you don't already know, the systematic destruction of the North Korean people is a relentless march through starvation, prison camps, forced labor, oppression of all expression, and the promotion of a sickening cult of personality. It is the elevation of a juvenile, immature form of human cruelty to nation/state level. It is the personification of everything wrong with organizations like the United Nations because, in a just world, everyone would agree that what North Korea has done to its people is a massive crime against humanity that must be stopped. There is no shortage of evidence of what they do to their people above the 38th parallel. Why do we continue to ignore a human rights calamity of epic proportions? Because people want their phones and gadgets and cheap goods from China to keep flowing.

This is madness.

Anyway, the President of the United States of America was kinder yesterday to the most repressive and brutal dictator in the entire world than he was to a journalist working for CNN. Trump was deferential and fatherly to Kim Jong Un and nasty to Jim Acosta. While overseas. While pretending to make a deal. While selling out the South Korean military, which, as I can attest to, would really like to invade North Korea and free their country cousins from the Kim dynasty. He did this while smiling and acting like he was accomplishing something. He did this while in the presence of a media apparatus that swallows up this farce and shits it out like something people ought to consume as "truth."

Yeah, this is why I don't write much anymore.

Imagine any Democratic president ever doing anything like this and being treated with the same level of deference and respect as Trump. You can't because this is how we live now.

Jesus.

This Picture Will Not Age Well

Someone should just tuck this away and save it because, some day, it's going to serve as an almost magical punch line for everything that was wrong in the Trump era.

Paul Manafort is an Incompetent Dumbass

If you've been raided by the FBI and indicted for a slew of financial crimes, it stands to reason that you should probably avoid using any electronic means at your disposal to tamper with witnesses:

Federal prosecutors on Monday accused President Trump’s former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, of attempting to tamper with witnesses in his federal tax and money laundering case.

In court documents, prosecutors working for the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, said that violated the terms of Mr. Manafort’s release while he awaits trial. They asked a federal judge to revise those terms or send him to jail until trial.

Prosecutors said that Mr. Manafort tried to contact witnesses by phone, through an intermediary and through an encrypted messaging program. One witness told the F.B.I. that Mr. Manafort was trying to “suborn perjury,” prosecutors said. Two witnesses provided the texts to the F.B.I., which also searched Mr. Manafort’s cloud-based Apple account, according to court records.

I think that the real reason why Manafort, Roger Stone, Carter Page, and Donald Trump Jr. are still free and walking around in public is because they are too fucking incompetent to stop using electronic devices to break the laws of the United States. Each and every move by Mueller's team stirs up a hornet's nest of gross incompetence and treason. The FBI is simply watching all of them break the law, repeatedly, and they're documenting all of this so that an airtight case can be made for charging everyone who came within twenty-five feet of Trump with treason. Every day means a new treasure trove of criminal stupidity to collate and organize.

Will any of it matter? I don't think so. Not anymore, because Trump has normalized treason and the vast majority of Republicans are okay with whatever constitutes using foreign assistance to advance their agenda. If a Russian offered you a few million dollars for your support, would you give it to them? For Republicans, money is preferable to loyalty to the United States. They'll grab any cash they can get and they don't care about anything quaint like choosing your country above all else.

If Robert Mueller could do one thing to save this country, it would be to make it politically toxic to take money from a foreign power. It's the kind of thing that should end a political career, but it doesn't. Putin's kleptocracy bought off Trump years ago, and our elites failed to weed him out of public life. They laughed at this clown and gave him a seat at the table, and now it will take a Herculean effort to remove Trump from power. Anyone who saw Manafort coming should have turned the other way, but they didn't. They embraced treason and dumbassery, and all we can do is prepare for the battle ahead.

The Antidote to Trump is Voting Every Republican Out of Office

Oh, fuck this shit:

There’s a lesson here. Donald Trump and the political movement behind him are empowered by ugly talk. Their own talk stands out less sharply in contrast. “You did it first … you did it worse … you do it more” are accurate enough answers, but they are not as powerful as not doing it at all.

Let Trump be Trump.

Let decent people be decent.

Trust your country—not all of it, sadly, but enough of it—to notice and appreciate the difference.

Decent people need to put their shoulder into the heaving, corrupt carcass of the Republican Party and push it back out the door. Decent people are too fucking angry, too used to days and days of horrible policies and ridiculous nonsense to put up with any more of this goddamned bullshit. It's not enough to wither and melt in the face of an onslaught on the American idea and a full-on mugging of the rule of law. The idea that you have to be decent to shitty people is concern trolling.

No, you do not.

You need to push back and fight like crazy because they are counting on you following the rules while they break them. They are counting on you having careful, restrained language while they say whatever they want. They are counting on controlling the rules of the debate and the parameters of the discourse so that they can obliterate you and dehumanize you and put their foot on your face. David Frum can't quite bring himself to understand that when eliminationist rhetoric is used against the American people, death and destruction are soon to follow. This cannot be tolerated and this cannot be dismissed. It must be met with the law and with the passion of a people who won't let anything as atrocious as Trumpism survive the next election cycle.

The elites have failed, and there is no one coming to save us.

You must vote.

You must insist that your neighbors be allowed to vote.

You must battle apathy.

You must resist.

And you don't have to refrain from using colorful language in the face of anyone who is indifferent to the suffering of lost children, drowned Americans, dead troops, and people dying without health care. You can call them cunts and shitgibbons and fucksticks all you want because that's what they are for not caring about other people.

In reality, they're psychopaths, and our fellow Americans were entertained enough to hand them power. The fight to take that power away isn't just fisticuffs with gentleman's rules. No, the hell with that. Whatever they bring, come back harder and never give up.
