It's not enough to say that Trump is awful for the terrible things that come out of his mouth. It has to be said - America is on a dark path because far too many so-called citizens support his policies, no matter how ridiculous or racist:
President Donald Trump seemed to float a new idea about border control during at a tax reform roundtable in Ohio.
The President was in the midst of criticizing Democrats during a riff about border security when he slipped in the idea that people might "have to think about closing up the country."
"They don't want the wall, but we're going to get the wall, even if we have to think about closing up the country for a while," Trump said. "We're going to get the wall. We have no choice. We have absolutely no choice. And we're going to get tremendous security in our country."
Trump then mentioned the notion a second time, saying, "And we may have to close up our country to get this straight, because we either have a country or we don't. And you can't allow people to pour into our country the way they're doing."
This is not about security. It is about racism.
This is about turning people who come here into "the other" so they can be dehumanized.
We have a country, in spite of what Trump has done to it.
No one is 'pouring' into this country.
We already have 'tremendous security,' but Trump knows that fear animates his supporters, so he has to whip them into a frenzy. That frenzy sustains and feeds the power he holds over Republicans in Congress, who are worthless and feckless in the face of blatant anti-Democratic policies.
You can't 'close up our country' because this is the United States of America. We don't lock ourselves down like a dictatorship or a third world banana republic. A door with iron bars cannot be slammed shut because a shivering, panicked old man is afraid and frightened. We trade goods and ideas with the world. People come here for innumerable reasons because this is a free country. Again, this fear mongering is meant to convince Trump's base to support him without thinking.
This is how irresponsible and un-American Trump's everyday commentary on policy ends up being. It gives these clowns (who hide behind pseudonyms because they know how the game is played) cover. Anyone who thinks it should be the policy of the United States of America to
1. shoot human beings at the border which is a crime against humanity
2. PUT LAND MINES ALL OVER THE BORDER and leave blown up human bodies strewn across the landscape
has given up on being a decent American. They are never going to vote for a Democrat, and they are never going to join us in having a reasonable debate about where this country is headed. Their heads are buried up their own asses, and they should be ignored.
Is it their economic anxiety that makes them monsters? Or is the racism and bigotry unleashed by a president who isn't even fit for office?
America is awful, and these people are to blame. Their fear means we all have to suffer.
