Trump Must Do the Bidding of His Russian Masters

If it's Wednesday, then there must be another huge bombshell revelation about how the Russians own Trump while the Republican Party keeps yelling "na-na-na-na-na" while covering its ears:

The Trump administration is moving toward handing back to Russia two diplomatic compounds, near New York City and on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, that its officials were ejected from in late December as punishment for Moscow’s interference in the 2016 presidential election.

President Barack Obama said Dec. 29 that the compounds were being “used by Russian personnel for intelligence-related purposes” and gave Russia 24 hours to vacate them. Separately, Obama expelled from the United States what he said were 35 Russian “intelligence operatives.”

[The luxurious, 45-acre compound in Maryland being shut down for alleged Russian espionage]

Early last month, the Trump administration told the Russians that it would consider turning the properties back over to them if Moscow would lift its freeze, imposed in 2014 in retaliation for U.S. sanctions related to Ukraine, on construction of a new U.S. consulate on a certain parcel of land in St. Petersburg.

Two days later, the U.S. position changed. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak at a meeting in Washington that the United States had dropped any linkage between the compounds and the consulate, according to several people with knowledge of the exchanges.

This is still NOT ENOUGH to convince the Republicans to cut their losses and remove Trump from power. This is still NOT ENOUGH to compel any of them to put country ahead of party. This is simply NOT ENOUGH to change the minds of anyone.

This is the best we're going to get. No one is all of a sudden going to discover their patriotism. We are months and months if not years away from anything resembling an accountability moment. Here you have an American president handing back to the Russians their collection or spying sites as if he's in the tank for them.

They are all traitors, every one of them.

Hillary For the Win

Slow clapping can be heard across the land...

Enough With the Kathy Griffin Bashing

Kathy Griffin did something stupid, so she apologized for it. In a world where Donald Trump never apologizes for a goddamned thing, and where Ted Nugent gets to walk around threatening to shoot Hillary Clinton, I'd say that this is enough phony outrage:

In the days, weeks, months and years following 9/11, there were countless images, moving and still, that came into our collective consciousness that changed us, as much as those events did.

For me, a New Yorker who witnessed many of those images live, there are a few that are forever etched in my brain. One, still photos of men in suits jumping from the top floors of the World Trade Center, their ties whipping upward in the wind as they leaped from one helpless fate to another.

Many more images would follow. I was at my desk at The New York Times in May 2004 when news broke that a missing American contractor named Nick Berg had been decapitated by Islamic extremists in Iraq. He'd briefly attended my college, so I'd felt a small connection with him. I made myself watch the video of his decapitation that morning, and immediately regretted it.

Of course, it was grisly and shocking and awful. But that's not what made it such a lasting, haunting image that I can't shake to this day.

That's how bad the Right Wing Hate Machine really is. S. E. Cupp is comparing Griffin's photo to the execution death of Nick Berg. Give me a fucking break.

This from the same person who wrote this in 2010 about President Obama's speech at the National Prayer Breakfast:

Christ is nowhere to be found: The president is supposedly a Christian, yet there wasn’t a single mention of Christ or Jesus in today’s speech.

I remember when it was okay to say that the President is "supposedly a Christian." Man, those were the days.

These assholes went to a fucking ballgame with this shit. Amazing. They are in public. No apologies here.

Yeah, just another day in America. No condemnation from the right wing.

I'm still waiting for the apologies, man. Still waiting.

Trump's kid Barron saw it on television and freaked out. So fucking what? His father is in the process of getting a lot of people killed. His father has run roughshod over decency for decades. His father used racism and bigotry to win the presidency. Maybe someone should keep that kid as far away from his pop's Twitter feed as possible. Sad!

You'll note that there are absolutely no conservatives I can find who were worried that these horrible depictions of President Obama might affect his two daughters. You'll note that a lot of this just went down the fucking memory hole.

I have never been a fan of Kathy Griffin, but I can appreciate where she comes from. In order to stand out in comedy as a female performer, you're expected to get right up to the same line Sarah Silverman pushes against but Heaven help you if you cross it. What a double standard. Male comedians say and do things that are far worse and far more controversial and they get away with it.  So, not only is Griffin the victim of a double standard, it's as if no one remembers hundreds and hundreds of death threats against the previous President of the United States.

Again, enough with this phony outrage. It's a distraction from the ongoing treason clusterfuck. My advice to anyone hoping for something similar to Griffin's name recognition blow up is to stop and think for a minute. The Trumpkins are busy stepping on their own dicks. They're drowning. Don't throw them a life preserver and legitimize their use of the media's ever-ready outrage machine.

Covfefe is Trump-Speak For Dementia

Area man's dementia continues to be ignored by an easily-amused media:

When you went to bed Tuesday night you hadn't heard of "covfefe." No one had. But by early Wednesday, Twitter was abuzz about little else.

Why? The word was accidentally invented by President Donald Trump in a tweet just after midnight ET.

Instantly broadcast around the world, the message confused, delighted and horrified many of Trump's 31 million followers.

Yes, how delightful. How easy to defend! The POTUS is such a busy man that he cannot finish a tweet.

Seriously, people. it's just darned funny to see that the Trump Regime is able to disguise the president's mental incapacity without blinking an eye. This could all be settled in about the time it takes for Trump to finish his business on the toilet. But a fundamental dishonesty among his senior staff enables him to remain in power. The ultimate lesson of electing a Republican is that they will always put party ahead of country and the common decency. Always.

Every day, those who interact with Trump likely see worse than a mere muffed tweet that trails off into the nether regions of his confused mind. Their inaction dooms us all. The inability of someone like General H. R. McMaster to speak to truth to power and instead resort to sycophancy and the enabling of a trainwreck presidency means actual people have to suffer. They cannot retain a disabled figurehead who demonstrates that he is unfit for office and come back to us and say, "gosh, we didn't know." Everyone knows. The media is terrified to cross the line and say, "hey, when was the last time Trump actually had a full physical from a military physician at Walter Reed?"

Honestly, it's time to start talking about how a full evaluation from a doctor not on Trump's personal payroll, and without his family hovering around him, might be the thing that saves Western Civilization.

"Covfefe" is proof that they know and have done nothing to invoke the 25th Amendment.

How Are We Supposed to Believe Any of This?

You'll have to excuse me for being skeptical of the things that come out of my own government right now:

The Pentagon successfully shot down an intercontinental ballistic missile using its own upgraded long-range interceptor missile on Tuesday in what was widely seen as a test of US ability to counter a North Korean missile launch.

The Missile Defense Agency launched a ground-based interceptor from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California to intercept a US-launched mock ICBM target over the Pacific Ocean, according to a US defense official.

The interceptor "destroyed the target in a direct collision," according to a statement from the Missile Defense Agency.

"The intercept of a complex, threat-representative ICBM target is an incredible accomplishment ... and a critical milestone for this program," said MDA Director Vice Adm. Jim Syring.

"This system is vitally important to the defense of our homeland, and this test demonstrates that we have a capable, credible deterrent against a very real threat," he said.

While the Pentagon is calling this test a success, some experts cautioned that the $40 billion missile defense system still has a long way to go before it can be considered fully developed.

Really, guys--after all that's gone on in the last few months, I'm supposed to believe you when you say this was a success? Who told you to say it was successful? The guys taking orders from Trump? Come on.

If truth is the first casualty of war, then truth is obliterated before breakfast in the Trump era, long before we even think about going into battle. This regime has no credibility in anything. And I hate to think that our military is not telling the truth, but weren't you guys supposed to have an aircraft carrier on the way to North Korea when you actually didn't have one headed that way?

When you elect someone who can't tell the truth, skepticism prevails every time.

The Court Jester in the Kingdom of Bullshit

This man said nothing about everything today:

The first White House press briefing in roughly two weeks following President Donald Trump's closely watched first foreign trip and continued scrutiny over contact between some members of his administration and Russian officials brought more questions than answers.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer's more than ten-minute recap of Trump's trip to Saudi ArabiaIsrael, the Vatican and the G-7 summit in Italy included such phrases as "historic," "unprecedented," and "extraordinary".

Spicer was less verbose when asked about reports from over the weekend that the president's son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner sought to set up a back channel with Russia prior to Trump's inauguration. Trump lawyer Michael Cohen confirmed to NBC that he is now also part of Congress' Russia probe.

The mere fact that the media even shows up at these briefings enables the Trump Regime to continue lying to the American people. They should run a disclaimer before every statement of this White House--no one is telling the truth, no one is capable of giving a straight answer, and we are now a banana republic. The first rule of the press is not to tell us what the spokesman for the president said. The first rule of the press is to tell us when the government is no longer telling the truth about anything.

Welcome to the Banana Republic of the United States of America. Our el presidente is a liar, his courtiers are protecting him, and this is a kingdom founded on bullshit. Spicey is the court jester, and all he needs is a better hat.

Jackassery in America

Terry Frei is out of a gig, and that's how the marketplace of ideas works. You can say whatever you want, but your employer has to decide whether or not your speech is in direct conflict with their goals as an organization. If you're a newspaper in a major American city, having someone on your writing staff who says racist things will likely lead to boycotts and condemnation, so the obvious answer is, you fire the jackass who says racist things.

No one's freedom has been taken away here. The Denver Post has just said, "no racist jackassery for us, thank you very much." And, no matter how you slice it, this is misplaced racism and phony patriotism wrapped up in a slew of bullshit:

Frei apologized Sunday but not after doubling down in his response to the first wave of heat by tweeting "THIS is what Memorial Day is about. Dave Schreiner's death in Battle of Okinawa. Not for squeamish or 'sensitive.'"

Schreiner was an American football player who died while serving alongside his Frei's father in World War II, and whom the sportswriter had written about in the past.

Unsurprisingly, another round of criticism followed, leading Frei to delete his tweets and replace them with "I apologize."

Oh, yeah. Double down on that shit sandwich, and don't forget to pander to even the most subtle of white nationalists when you do. Where did Frei get the idea that he could win friends and influence people if he just doubled down on his racist swill? Could it be that living in Donald Trump's America would embolden Frei to say something equally ridiculous while wrapping the American flag around his shoulders? Maybe Trump will give him a pardon. Maybe Fox News will give him a better gig. I hear Colin Cowherd still has a job, so it can't be all bad for race-baiting fuckups out there. Perhaps the reason why Frei said what he said is because he knows that sports writing is one of the remaining places where you can spread indecency around and laugh it off.

Frei went with the oldest trick in the book. Wave the bloody shirt! Use the moral authority of being related to a dead veteran who fought in the only good war to justify being an asshole in 2017. Yay! Who doesn't love a bloody shirt being waved around?

This is a broken country right now. If a man of Japanese descent winning the Indianapolis 500 freaks you out, then a woman being president, or a black guy getting paid to give a speech, or someone defending someone else from a bigot and losing their life for it has to be the straw that broke the camel's back for a loser like you, snowflake.

Putin Owns Trump and Everyone Knows It

American prestige took a hit last week:

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said her experience at recent international summits featuring US President Donald Trump showed her Europe can't "completely" rely on the United States and other longstanding allies.

"The times when we could completely rely on others are, to an extent, over," Merkel said at a campaign event in Munich.

She didn't mention Trump by name in the speech but alluded to the US President's first foreign trip, where he lambasted NATO allies for their defense expenditure and also labeled Germany "very bad" on trade.

"I experienced that in the last a few days, and therefore I can only say that we Europeans must really take our fate into our own hands, of course in friendship with the United States and in friendship with Great Britain and as good neighbors wherever it is possible, also with Russia and also with all the other countries," Merkel said.

The Globe and Mail:

Her comments seem to indicate she saw no improvement in her relationship with Mr. Trump after their famously frosty meeting at the White House in March. The Taormina summit turned into the G6 plus one. The event, which came to an inglorious end on Saturday, cannot be considered an outright failure. But it came pretty close.

Don’t blame the Italian hosts, who had spent four solid months trying to build a consensus on key matters, such as climate change, and only partly succeeded. The exceedingly short, undetailed communiqué – only six pages long, compared with the 32-page wonder produced at last year’s G7 – was evidence of the Italians’ struggle to find common ground.

The main culprit was Mr. Trump, who did his best to isolate himself from the other G7 leaders – from Canada, Germany, Britain, France, Japan and Italy – on several issues pressing on the global order.

On fighting terrorism and cyberterrorism, he was in five-star-general mode, leading the charge with British Prime Minister Theresa May, who is managing the aftermath of the terrorist attack in Manchester that killed 22 people.

What can you say about any of this? Putin owns Trump and he's in charge of American foreign policy. There's no other explanation for what's happening. We've covered the compromising position in which the Trump Regime finds itself, and we've had a great time laughing at Trump's gaffes and his lack of stamina and his weird habit of wandering off in the middle of things. But, really, what's completely evident is that the Russians are seeing everything break their way. The Europeans are on their own, the NATO alliance is fractured, and Trump refused to validate an American commitment to Article 5.

If you're Putin, you know you've won. America is divided, Americans have not idea what really happened during the 2016 election, and the President of the United States is doing exactly what the Russians wanted him to do. He's a lurching, out of control stumblebum who has done more to destroy America's diplomatic prestige than any other president in American history, and that includes George W. Bush and Warren G. Harding, neither of whom knew a goddamned thing about foreign policy.

Instead of hearing TV pundits talk about the law, and how all of this might have been treason last year, stop and think for a minute. Who won? Putin did. Who lost? Americans who care about decency and leading the free world lost. That's where we find ourselves after another nightmare week of the Trump presidency.

Trump Has No Idea What Fake News Really Is

I think we have to say something in response to Trump's nonsense:

President Trump on Sunday said he believes many of the recent leaks coming out of his White House are made up by the "fake news" media.

In a series of tweets, the president focused on news reports that include the words "sources say."

"It is my opinion that many of the leaks coming out of the White House are fabricated lies made up by the #FakeNews media," the president tweeted Sunday.

"Whenever you see the words 'sources say' in the fake news media, and they don't mention is very possible that those sources don't exsist but are made up by fake news writers. #FakeNews is the enemy!"

Well, this "fake news" keeps being proven as fact. A startling number of people seem to be willing to swear in affidavits that all of it, every word, is true. If the Trump Regime has proof that it's all fake, they're sure taking a hell of a long time to produce evidence that would discredit it, aren't they? If I had proof something wasn't true, I'd share it with the world as soon as I could.

This "fake news" has two separate Congressional committees issuing subpoenas.

This "fake news" led to the firing of Michael Flynn.

This "fake news" involves a lot of obstruction of justice.

This "fake news" has not been debunked by anyone anywhere.

This "fake news" keeps getting corroborated by foreign intelligence services.

This "fake news" has a lot of people furiously trying to cover their tracks.

This "fake news" has forced a number of people currently serving in the Trump Regime to amend their security clearance paperwork.

This "fake news" is being investigated by a Special Counsel named Robert Mueller.

This "fake news" leads a number of people to connect Russians in the United States to members of the Trump Regime.

Here's a really good question I don't see anyone asking, though. If all of this is fake, then why is Sergey Kisylak still here in America? Why hasn't he been declared persona non grata and asked to leave? If there's no nefarious connection between the Trump Regime and the Russians, why wouldn't we ask the man at the center of trying to recruit spies in this country to please leave?

"Fake news" is what some kid in Macedonia uses to make people click links in Facebook so he can have gambling money. The president doesn't know this, so everything is "fake news" to him because this shit keeps turning out to be true on a regular basis.

President Fatass

Tired of winning yet? Trump's overseas trip has been an unparalleled disaster in the history of American diplomacy. Just when you thought it couldn't get any more ridiculous, Trump tells you to hold his beer.

These are people who can actually walk short distances. The President of the United States does not have the stamina to do the same thing. So, while in Taomina, Sicily, he followed them in a golf cart.

Great job, Republicans! You really picked a winner, didn't you?

McMaster Says Kushner Was Helping Russia Find Moose and Squirrel

H.R. McMaster's Dereliction of Duty is an academic indictment of the Lyndon Johnson administration's escalation of the Vietnam War. Again and again, McMaster writes about how the generals around Johnson failed to speak "truth to power" and give him the advice he needed to avoid a protracted, bloody stalemate in Southeast Asia. In case after case, McMaster's book indicted these military men for failing to stand up to the civilian leadership in Washington D.C.

This is the guy who pissed in the cornflakes of every living leader from that era. He wagged his finger in their face and all but cemented their legacy for them. This is a guy who was so sure of his moral superiority, he kept right on moving up the ranks, convinced that he, and probably only he, was capable to telling the President of the United States things he didn't want to hear.

It took thirty years for McMaster to become one of America's most respected military leaders. In about 90 days, he has destroyed his own professional reputation and is now cool with treason committed by the president's son-in-law:

National security adviser H.R. McMaster told reporters on Saturday that he was not bothered by news of President Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner's reported attempt to set up a secret backchannel between the US and Russia.

"We have back-channel communications with a number of countries. So, generally speaking, about back-channel communications, what that allows you to do is to communicate in a discreet manner," McMaster said.

His comments came a day after the Washington Post reported that Kushner spoke to Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak in December about setting up a backchannel between the Trump transition team and the Kremlin in an effort to bypass monitoring of their communications.

The institutional freakout over Kushner's attempt to circumvent the American government and use Russian equipment to have secure communications with Russian officials is not a liberal pants-wetting display of phony outrage. It's a comprehensive display from people on both sides of the political aisle being absolutely gobsmacked over the balls on that kid for thinking he could simply ask Kislyak to facilitate this for him because other methods might be inconvenient.  Here's McMaster out there, doing the work of Sean "Spicey" Spicer. He sounds like little more than a GOP flack from Oklahoma telling everyone that fracking is cool and to not mind the forty earthquakes since breakfast.

How does McMaster live with himself now? His professional reputation is now completely gone. Anybody who gives this guy a job is getting a durable, reliable lickspittle who can justify saying anything to anyone.

Why isn't Jared Kushner in jail right now? You're telling me that if Hillary's son-in-law had gone to the head of Russia's spy recruitment operation in America and asked to use the embassy's white courtesy phone to Putin's sex lair that the Republicans wouldn't already be in the process of burning down the White House?

Come on.

There is so much treason right now, I fear we'll just get used to it as the normal way of doing business. There are so many people with their hair on fire right now it's a wonder anything is getting done.

Trump is Not Bringing Back Coal Jobs

Here's a little bit of tough love:

The president's chief economic adviser is casting doubt on the future of U.S. coal, saying it "doesn't really make that much sense anymore as a feedstock," directly contradicting President Donald Trump's repeated promises to revive the struggling coal industry.

Briefing reporters Thursday night on Air Force OneGary Cohn singled out natural gas as "such a cleaner fuel." By exporting more natural gas and investing in wind and solar energy, the U.S. "can be a manufacturing powerhouse and still be environmentally friendly," Cohn said.

Cohn's comments were at odds with his boss, who campaigned as coal's champion and decried what he and other Republicans called a "war on coal" by former President Barack Obama.

So, all of those people who don't have work in West Virginia and wherever else should have already found jobs handling natural gas, right? I mean, if that was your policy, you should have already made plans to retrain them, relocate them, and invest in creating jobs in the natural gas industry right?

Don't bet on it.

The way this will play out is simple. Trump says something that is an obvious, provable lie. Whatever it is falls apart and becomes something that the fake liberal media can complain about. The exact opposite of what Trump has said gets done in the shadows by Republicans who know everyone is paying attention to Trump and his foibles. Evil descends upon the land, and money is Hoovered up by a massive conglomerate. Nothing changes for the people who are out of work, except for the fact that their benefits are cut, their lives become shorter because there's no health care, and they can't find jobs because everything has been outsourced.

I'm sorry you don't have jobs, but quit fucking voting for Republicans. They control West Virginia. They control the Federal Government right now. How many jobs are they going to create in the coal mining industry when the guy in charge of helping to set economic policy basically says it doesn't make sense to mine coal anymore?

None. But keep voting for Republicans. See if that helps.

Meanwhile, did you hear about her fucking E-mails? Oh, now that's a scandal.

A Secret Back Channel With the Russians, You Say?

Well, today has been a typical Friday in the Trump era, has it not?

After the Nov. 8 election, Kushner and Flynn also discussed with Kislyak the idea of creating a back channel between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin that could have bypassed diplomats and intelligence agencies, two of the sources said. Reuters was unable to determine how those discussions were conducted or exactly when they took place.

Reuters was first to report last week that a proposal for a back channel was discussed between Flynn and Kislyak as Trump prepared to take office. The Washington Post was first to report on Friday that Kushner participated in that conversation.

Separately, there were at least 18 undisclosed calls and emails between Trump associates and Kremlin-linked people in the seven months before the Nov. 8 presidential election, including six calls with Kislyak, sources told Reuters earlier this month. . Two people familiar with those 18 contacts said Flynn and Kushner were among the Trump associates who spoke to the ambassador by telephone. Reuters previously reported only Flynn’s involvement in those discussions.

I'm just going to throw this out there:

Attorney General John Ashcroft, FBI Director Louis J. Freeh and United States Attorney Helen Fahey announced today that a veteran FBI counterintelligence Agent was arrested Sunday by the FBI and charged with committing espionage by providing highly classified national security information to Russia and the former Soviet Union.

At the time of the arrest at a park in Vienna, Virginia, Robert Philip Hanssen, age 56, was clandestinely placing a package containing highly classified information at a pre-arranged, or “dead drop,” site for pick-up by his Russian handlers. Hanssen had previously received substantial sums of money from the Russians for the information he disclosed to them.

FBI Director Louis J. Freeh expressed both outrage and sadness. He said the charges, if proven, represent “the most serious violations of law — and threat to national security.”

“A betrayal of trust by an FBI Agent, who is not only sworn to enforce the law but specifically to help protect our nation’s security, is particularly abhorrent. This kind of criminal conduct represents the most traitorous action imaginable against a country governed by the Rule of Law. It also strikes at the heart of everything the FBI represents — the commitment of over 28,000 honest and dedicated men and women in the FBI who work diligently to earn the trust and confidence of the American people every day.”

“These kinds of cases are the most difficult, sensitive and sophisticated imaginable. I am immensely proud of the men and women of the FBI who conducted this investigation. Their actions represent counterintelligence at its very best, reflecting dedication to both principle and mission. It is not an easy assignment to investigate a colleague, but they did so unhesitatingly, quietly and securely.”

Hanssen was charged in a criminal complaint filed in Federal court in Alexandria, Virginia, with espionage and conspiracy to commit espionage, violations that carry a possible punishment of life in prison, and under certain circumstances, the death penalty. Following the arrest, FBI Agents began searching Hanssen’s residence, automobiles and workspace for additional evidence.

A detailed affidavit, filed in support of the criminal complaint and search warrants, provides a troubling account of how Hanssen first volunteered to furnish highly sensitive documents to KGB intelligence officers assigned to the Soviet embassy in Washington, D.C. The affidavit chronicles the systematic transfer of highly classified national security and counterintelligence information by Hanssen in exchange for diamonds and cash worth more than $600,000. Hanssen’s activities also have links to other, earlier espionage and national security investigations including the Aldrich Ames and Felix Bloch cases, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit alleges that on over 20 separate occasions, Hanssen clandestinely left packages for the KGB, and its successor agency, the SVR, at dead drop sites in the Washington area. He also provided over two dozen computer diskettes containing additional disclosures of information. Overall, Hanssen gave the KGB/SVR more than 6,000 pages of valuable documentary material, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit alleges that Hanssen compromised numerous human sources of the U.S. Intelligence Community, dozens of classified U.S. Government documents, including “Top Secret” and “codeword” documents, and technical operations of extraordinary importance and value. It also alleges that Hanssen compromised FBI counterintelligence investigative techniques, sources, methods and operations, and disclosed to the KGB the FBI’s secret investigation of Felix Bloch, a foreign service officer, for espionage.

Nothing to see here, move along.

Call Me Melanija, Peasants

I'm going to write one of those essays that tells you everything you know is wrong, the conventional wisdom is backwards, and I'm smart for figuring it out.

My hot take on everything that's happening right now is this--Trump, Kushner, Bannon, Priebus, Sessions and the rest of them are pawns in a game being played by another person. They are not masters of their own fate.

They are not in charge.

They're taking orders.

Even Putin is irrelevant here--he's in charge of a failed state full of pensioners, alcoholics, and seedy fellows who steal money on the Internet and there's nothing left for him, personally, to steal. Where do you go from there? You go up against the wall when the peasants have nothing left to lose by storming the gates of one of your 300 dachas. Putin has a bug-out plan that gets closer to the execution phase by the hour. As long as Russians can still find pitchforks that haven't been pawned to pay for their home-made wood alcohol blackout fun party, Putin has to stay close to a helicopter and the guy who has the Romanov jewels in a briefcase.

The person calling the shots is Melanjia Knauss, and you better get her name right because you are fucked if you don't. This piece was originally about how Ivanka Trump is running things, but it turned out to be more about how Ivana Trump, her mother, was running things. Then I threw all of that out because, honestly, who's smarter? Melania or Ivanka? It's Melania because she Germanified her name so it would be easier for people to see her boobs. If that's not a total boss move, what the hell is?

You might believe in the cult of Ivanka, but I don't. Ivanka has to see Jared every day and, I'm sorry, but he's the fucking Jonah from Veep in every episode of Trump Family Values. When I see pictures of Jared, I wonder how many preppie murders he has under his belt. He has murderdeathkill tattooed under his eyelids.  You know the scene where Hannibal (Anthony Hopkins) feeds Krendler (Ray Liotta) his final meal? That's Jared planning brunch with Chris Christie.

Ivanka clearly wants to be married to Justin Trudeau. She does not want to actually work but her old man isn't up to the job he didn't want so she has to fill in for him because shut up, that's why. It's hard to be the adult child of a dementia sufferer--you're the one who has to remember stuff! She has to show up and do things in the White House in close proximity to people who smell funny because they use the cheap soap they stole from a gas station. When you live in Washington D.C., everything is ridiculously expensive. Going to the suburbs to buy things from big box stores is for losers and people who like Zip cars. When you are a government employee working 16 hour days in the District, you master the art of stealing soap from gas stations. It's a real thing, trust me.

In this world, the person who runs things is the one who gets to have whatever they want when they want it.

Does that describe Trump? Bannon? Spicer? Priebus? McMaster? Kushner? Nope. They're sucking wind right now, waiting for the chance to be frog-marched past the Marine guards who can't believe they ended up having to hold doors open for fat Nazis in cheap suits. One minute you're a Lance Corporal in San Diego, living in a world of beaches, strip clubs, and fucking awesome video games and then you're sleeping by the freeway in the old Marine Barracks at 8th and I, and the Wi-Fi sucks and some dickhead in mismatched shoes is telling you to make the door wider because they haven't seen their dick in forty years.

Not being able to see Melania throw candlesticks at Donald is the number one reason why being a Marine in the White House is now a shit detail. Her ability to run things is hampered by the fact that she isn't even in Washington DC, but maybe that's her brilliance. She doesn't have to recline on a bed anywhere near a grown man named Trump, her fingerprints aren't on anything, and, when Trump goes to prison, she gets whatever is left of his money and his kids get to go pound sand because they are completely implicated in all facets of his business "empire." I use that word loosely and with quotes because an "empire" usually comes without mortgages held by Russian mobsters.

Her every public appearance suggests that my hot take is the superior one right now, and anyone else who claims that they have a take hotter than mine is bogus and remarkably sad.

I'm not saying this was her plan while growing up in Slovenia, but this is really, really interesting:

Melanija Knavs was born in Novo Mesto in the southeast of Slovenia, which was then part of Yugoslavia, on April 26, 1970.

As the Communist Party in Slovenia upheld atheism, Melania's father did not sponsor her Christian sacraments of baptism or first communion.

Melania was born into Communism and now her husband is in hock to a bunch of ex-Communists. Melania is Catholic, and no one knew it until she went to meet the Pope. How many people keep their Catholicism a secret and then, all of a sudden, get to meet the Pope?

Well, if you're like me, and I know I am, you get to do that when you're in charge of shit.

According to, Melania knows her prenuptial agreement with old man Trump will never survive a trial for treason:

Basic contract rules apply to prenuptial agreements in New York. Specifically, an agreement should be in writing and signed by the future spouses before a notary public. An agreement doesn’t take effect until a couple actually marries. However, a prenuptial agreement made prior to a religious ceremony intended to be a marriage, will be upheld even if the marriage isn’t legally binding.

Generally, a prenuptial agreement is presumed to be valid unless a spouse can prove the following:

  • one spouse signed the agreement under duress
  • one spouse wasn’t mentally competent or was under the age of 18
  • one spouse was defrauded under the agreement
  • the agreement was unconscionable (severely unfair) when it was signed
  • the agreement wasn’t put in writing, or
  • the agreement wasn’t signed until after the couple married.

In New York, potential spouses are under no obligation to disclose their finances to each other before signing a prenuptial agreement. But if a spouse chooses to disclose his or her assets and misrepresents his or her financial condition, the resulting prenuptial agreement may be overturned.

Due to the fact that everything related to Trump is an ongoing demonstration of unchecked fraud tempered with unrestrained greed, Melania likely has evidence that would overturn any prenup agreement with her husband. I also believe that Melania has decided to help Federal investigators and give her husband bad advice.

"Do you know what would make you look strong, Donald? Tell everyone the horrible things Bannon says out loud in a deep voice and do not smile, do not even laugh." I believe she says that to him on the phone when she's not in the same city because she knows he will do it.

Does anybody else have a hot take as hot as this one? What if Melania is already feeding evidence to the Federal government in order to accomplish these three things:

  • Get away from Trump
  • Have Trump thrown in jail
  • Keep her son away from Trump
  • Find a way to change her life, keep Trump's money, and rid herself of the Trump stain on her conscience

It could be that everything Trump has done since marrying her has been designed to save his business so that he doesn't end up being discovered as a fraud. The only way to do this was to increase the appeal of his personal brand and use his businesses as a front for money laundering.  Trump does not "build" things or earn money like a normal Manhattan businessman. He may use the rotting remains of his former business empire to launder money for Russian officials in order to remain solvent. I believe he has enormous debts and Melania knows everything about his business dealings. Hell, he might even be in hock to the Turks as well.

I also think that Melania, Ivanka and Jared all know that Trump is probably suffering from dementia. That's important, too, and it could explain all of those brown stains the White House staff keeps having to hide with cushions.

If Trump is found out to be a fraud who requires a guardian because he is unfit, his legal standing is severely diminished in relation to defending himself in divorce court from the demands of his third wife (never mind defending himself from charges of treason, obstruction of justice, and violating the emoluments clause).

Winning the presidency has likely complicated his efforts to extricate himself from being engaged in Russian money laundering operations (really, how else would a series of casinos go broke? Mismanagement or having the profits skimmed off the top to cover shady deals with the Russians?). Trump knows he works for Melania and that, when she stares daggers at him or strides confidently in a different direction, she does so safe in the knowledge that she has shared her compromising material on Trump's business relationships with people who can protect her from harm.

Why else would Trump have settled the Trump University scandal? It's because, in the course of deliberating and arguing whether he was an expert on real estate transactions, his failures, his debacles, and his debts would have beenmade public. If the people suing him had found out that he has a net worth south of $200 million dollars or even less because of his liabilities, they would have been able to prove that his "university" was a scam run by someone whose methods were unsound and did not produce real results.

If you're flush, and receiving a healthy amount of cash from your investments and properties, you would never tolerate settling a court case brought forth by a slew of rubes who were cheated out of tuition money. If you're running from your bank balances, you settle so that no one finds out how bad things are for you. A Trump worth $10 billion is presidential; a Trump worth $200 million who owes money to the Russians, the Germans, and the Chinese is a low-rent slumlord's son.

One of my other fresh hot takes is that you haven't seen Trump's tax returns because he doesn't want you to know that he hasn't paid any taxes in years because his crumbling empire has tremendous liabilities, the very best liabilities, held by fabulous people, only the most luxurious ones that are tasteful.

This is why I think we're looking at everything the wrong way--Melania is in charge of everything right now. When she wears a $51,000 jacket, it's because she knows where the bodies are buried. Trump has to McDonalds and beg people to be his friend while Melania has the wardrobe that would bankrupt a Princess of Monaco.

I believe she used her connections to link Trump to the Russians so that she could play a long game of ruining him for her benefit while commanding huge sums for maintaining her link to the fashion world. She married him knowing full well that he was in financial trouble but could maintain her in comfort so that appearances would be kept up in front of Manhattan's elite. She did nothing while he made himself America's foremost asshole--none of that rubbed off on her. She watched while he branded himself someone "business like" in spite of making terrible decisions and deals. Their whole marriage was a business transaction that left him paying to hang clothes on a woman with expensive tastes. He paid sticker price plus She knew that he was getting old and did not believe in exercise, so why not stick around and see if he falls over into his KFC $5 dollar Fill Up?

Hipsters with hot takes like to call Trump a con man who has made the common people his marks. My searing hot take is that Melania spotted a whale, and after she harpooned him, she fed his ego nothing but candy bars and bullshit so that he would consume himself with envy and rage.

She engineered the narrow win that delivered Trump the presidency so that she could kick him out of the house. She likely has evidence in hand that would get everyone--from Trump on down to Carter Page--thrown in Leavenworth. She went from small-town Slovenia to the being the First Lady of the United States of America without having to leave her own bed in Manhattan, which is the real capital of the world. She has the ability to bend Trump to her will. She can swat away his hand in front of everyone without worrying whether or not there are consequences.

Typically, the person in charge gets to do whatever they want to do. Does that sound like Trump to you?

Trump is being hounded because he likes to play golf and tell other men about the grabbing he does of pussies. He didn't want to win. He wanted his old life to continue. He hates living in the White House, he does not have the stamina to do the job, he hates his staff, he is losing out on an untold number of lucrative deals to launder more money for those assholes in Cyprus who call in the middle of the night, and the really talented people want nothing to do with him. People who look like they don't know anything about basic skin care are brought into the Oval Office all day long.

The FBI, the entire intelligence community, and every liberal known to man are all united in opposition to everything he wants to do. That's some scary shit. How do you go from being mocked once a month by Graydon Carter to having 150 investigators in the Counterintelligence Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation living inside of your own ass?

Trump is fucking sad, peeps. His friends keep having to quit the government. His golf courses are being vandalized. They make him get out of bed on weekends and do stuff. His own hotel is now a canvas on which strange people with great technical skill project horrible things. Everyone is against him, nothing is going right, and he's surrounded by ugly people he can smell coming a block away. Everyone he has to rely on was against him in the primary. Trump wants to leer at tits all day, but they don't let you do that when you're president because no one wears trailer trash clothes into the Oval Office except Sarah Palin and, aw, shit, Sarah Hillbilly Palin? Really? The president should only get to look at the best jugs, the finest jugs, the ones done by the doctors from Beverly Hills who do all of the beautiful women, the really best ones. Trump is mad all the time because looking at jugs is what he does best and the presidency seriously intrudes on his jug ogling.

Meanwhile, Melania does whatever she wants, lives in her own home, sleeps in her own bed, and doesn't give a shit what anyone thinks. Trump doesn't get to look at her jugs anymore.

Who's a boss?

Melanija, bitches.

Trump Vows to Destroy the Market For German Cars in America

Never mind the fact that the Germans have auto manufacturing plants in America (like the one in Alabama):

During a meeting with top leaders of the European Union, President Donald Trump said “the Germans are bad, very bad,” according to participants in the room who spoke to German weekly news magazine Der Spiegel.

Trump’s specific criticism was that Germany’s auto industry exported cars. “See the millions of cars they are selling in the U.S. Terrible,” Der Spiegel reports he said. “We will stop this.”

In January, Trump threatened to slap a 35 percent tax on German auto imports. “If you want to build cars in the world, then I wish you all the best. You can build cars for the United States, but for every car that comes to the USA, you will pay 35 percent tax,” he said. “I would tell BMW that if you are building a factory in Mexico and plan to sell cars to the USA, without a 35 percent tax, then you can forget that.”

People love their German cars. Starting a trade war over nothing is par for the course with this incompetent boob. Has anybody told him that we sell a lot of cars in Germany as well?

Krista Shockey Claims Leopards Weren't Supposed to Eat Her Face

An informed electorate is a curious thing, isn't it?

Krista Shockey voted for President Trump in November. Now she's one of the people who might get hurt under his plan to cut safety net programs for the poor and disabled.

Shockey is on Supplemental Security Income (SSI), a program to help low-income Americans who are disabled. The monthly payment is just over $700 a month.

"It's my only income," Shockey told CNNMoney in the fall, when we first met her at Diner 23 in Waverly, a small town in southern Ohio that's seen better days. "I couldn't live" without it.

She was stunned to hear the president wants to downsize SSI. She hadn't heard about it until CNNMoney called her.

When releasing Trump's budget Tuesday, the White House hailed it as a "taxpayer first" plan. Trump's goal is to get millions of people off welfare and into full-time jobs. For Shockey, that won't be easy.

"There's no way I could go back to work," Shockey said this week. "I've got a lot of problems. I'm crippled in my feet, knees, back, hands."

Now, if Miss Shockey were suffering from an inability to pay attention, read a newspaper, or look at the news, I would give her a pass. I think we would all give her a pass. I'm frankly tired of these pieces, and I stopped commenting on them months ago. I think it's important to point out that Trump told everyone that he was going to command an army of leopards to go throughout the land and eat the faces of everyone sick, tired, old, and poor. He said this over and over again, and he promised people they would get tired of winning.

Well, the leopards are going to show up at Krista's house, and they're going to eat her fucking face. Maybe next time don't vote for the guy who told you, again and again, nothing but provable lies? Maybe next time don't fall for this bullshit notion that the Federal government can be run like a business? Maybe next time don't vote for the guy who says he can grab women by the pussy?

Why can't these people be honest? They wanted Trump to come in and stick it to the blacks and Hispanics. What they forgot to do was notice that he really just wants to take every penny he can and give it to himself and his rich friends. I mean, if a stupid liberal blogger like me could see the flimflam man coming a mile away, why couldn't people like this dopey woman?

This Fox News Reporter Just Did the Right Thing

This is Fox News reporter Alicia Acuna. She witnessed Montana Republican Congressional candidate Greg Gianforte body slam reporter Ben Jacobs to the ground. She just told her story, and she just corroborated everything Jacobs said:

As part of our preparation for a story about Thursday's special election to air on "Special Report with Bret Baier," we arranged interviews with the top two candidates, Republican Greg Gianforte and Democrat Rob Quist. On Wednesday, I joined field producer Faith Mangan and photographer Keith Railey in Bozeman for our scheduled interview with Gianforte, which was to take place at the Gianforte for Congress Bozeman Headquarters.

Faith, Keith and I arrived early to set up for the interview in a room adjacent to another room where a volunteer BBQ was to take place. As the time for the interview neared, Gianforte came into the room. We exchanged pleasantries and made small talk about restaurants and Bozeman.

During that conversation, another man — who we now know is Ben Jacobs of The Guardian — walked into the room with a voice recorder, put it up to Gianforte's face and began asking if he had a response to the newly released Congressional Budget Office report on the American Health Care Act. Gianforte told him he would get to him later. Jacobs persisted with his question. Gianforte told him to talk to his press guy, Shane Scanlon.

At that point, Gianforte grabbed Jacobs by the neck with both hands and slammed him into the ground behind him. Faith, Keith and I watched in disbelief as Gianforte then began punching the reporter. As Gianforte moved on top of Jacobs, he began yelling something to the effect of, "I'm sick and tired of this!"

Jacobs scrambled to his knees and said something about his glasses being broken. He asked Faith, Keith and myself for our names. In shock, we did not answer. Jacobs then said he wanted the police called and went to leave. Gianforte looked at the three of us and repeatedly apologized. At that point, I told him and Scanlon, who was now present, that we needed a moment. The men then left.

To be clear, at no point did any of us who witnessed this assault see Jacobs show any form of physical aggression toward Gianforte, who left the area after giving statements to local sheriff's deputies.

The fact that this is a Fox News reporter is one thing, but here's the other thing you need to know--Gianforte and campaign have just been caught telling a massive lie:

Scanlon later issued a statement saying that Jacobs "entered the [campaign] office without permission, aggressively shoved a recorder in Greg's face, and began asking badgering questions."

Later, the statement added, "After asking Jacobs to lower the recorder, Jacobs declined. Greg then attempted to grab the phone that was pushed in his face. Jacobs grabbed Greg's wrist, and spun away from Greg, pushing them both to the ground. It's unfortunate that this aggressive behavior from a liberal journalist created this scene at our campaign volunteer BBQ."

Thanks to Acuna, everything in the statement from the Gianforte campaign has been rendered a complete and utter lie. She has destroyed any credibility Gianforte might have at this point. They can't come back and claim that this the work of the liberal media and they can't call it fake news--she works for Fox. Well, I guess they can attack her for being a woman. In fact, how much do you want to bet that that's what the flying monkeys of the right wing Breitbart hate machine are gearing up to do right now?

The only thing left to ask is, why isn't Gianforte in custody and what happened to the rule of law in Montana? There's one standard for Republicans and another for everyone else? Felony assault is against the law in Montana unless you're a white guy running as a Republican?

Come on. Where's the outrage?

UPDATE: Finally, Gianforte has been charged with a crime:

Greg Gianforte, the Republican candidate in Montana's special congressional election, has been charged with misdemeanor assault after he allegedly body slammed a reporter and broke his glasses on Wednesday night.

Misdemeanor? Really? In my opinion (I am not a lawyer or a prosecutor) the guy committed a felony and fled the scene. He concocted a blatant lie out of thin air that he didn't think a Fox News reporter would contradict. Gianforte and his campaign thought they could get away with it. They were mistaken.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions Must Resign Immediately

This is not hyperbole. This is a fact. Attorney General Jeff Sessions should be charged with a felony for lying on his application for a security clearance:

Attorney General Jeff Sessions did not disclose meetings he had last year with Russian officials when he applied for his security clearance, the Justice Department told CNN Wednesday.

Sessions, who met with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak at least two times last year, didn't note those interactions on the form, which requires him to list "any contact" he or his family had with a "foreign government" or its "representatives" over the past seven years, officials said.

The new information from the Justice Department is the latest example of Sessions failing to disclose contacts he had with Russian officials. He has come under withering criticism from Democrats following revelations that he did not disclose the same contacts with Kislyak during his Senate confirmation hearings earlier this year.

Sessions initially listed a year's worth of meetings with foreign officials on the security clearance form, according to Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores. But she says he and his staff were then told by an FBI employee who assisted in filling out the form, known as the SF-86, that he didn't need to list dozens of meetings with foreign ambassadors that happened in his capacity as a senator.

The reason why Sessions lied on his security clearance form is simple--he thought he was going to get away with it. Not only did her perjure himself in front of Al Franken and the Senate committee charged with providing advice and consent on his nomination, but now the Attorney General of the United States can't even fill out a form properly. Sessions should resign and find himself a lawyer who has handled security clearance cases.

Holy cow! What a game changer! These people are too incompetent not to end up in jail before all of this is over.

Basically, Hillary Clinton Should be President Right Now

I mean, when John Brennan starts throwing around words like "treasonous," I don't know what other outcome there would be right now. Hillary Rodham Clinton was elected president last year, but the Trump campaign's collusion with Russia stole the election outright and subverted the will of the American voter:

Former CIA Director John Brennan told House Russia investigators Tuesday that Russia "brazenly interfered" in US elections, including actively contacting members of the President Donald Trump's campaign -- but he stopped shy of dubbing it "collusion."

"I saw interaction that in my mind raised questions of whether it was collusion," Brennan told Rep. Trey Gowdy, saying that he supported the FBI digging further. "It was necessary to pull threads."

Brennan was speaking to the House intelligence committee on the extent of Russia's meddling in the 2016 elections and possible ties to the Trump campaign, where he was asked about how Moscow recruits sources "wittingly and unwittingly."

"Frequently, people who go along a treasonous path do not know they are on a treasonous path until it is too late," Brennan said.

The "collusion" part has to be proved in court, and there is ample evidence out there to support that narrative. What you need to pay attention to is the fact that Brennan introduced a new word today into the lexicon of this scandal. He used the word "treasonous" because that's apparently what the evidence shows. And if members of the Trump campaign committed treasonous acts in order to win the 2016 election, that disqualifies Trump from being president.

Don't give me any bullshit about how we will end up following the presidential line of succession. Nobody voted to make Paul Ryan or Orrin Hatch president. They voted--by a margin of 3,000,000 votes--the make Hillary president. There isn't anything legitimate about a Donald Trump presidency anymore.

If the roles were reversed, Trump, the RNC, the clowns at Judicial Watch, Antonin Scalia and his army of ghost lawyers from hell would be standing shoulder to shoulder in a ring around the goddamned Supreme Court right now, ready to litigate this into oblivion. Where are the Democratic Party's lawyers? What the hell are they doing right now? None of them have jobs in the government, so, what say we round up a hundred ex-U.S. Attorneys and whatnot and start the legal challenge to overturn the 2016 election?

It's the Money Laundering, Stupid

I agree with this, and I think that Trump and his associates see the presidency as a wonderful opportunity to not only steal as much money as they can but to launder it for their pals as well:

It may not have made “sense” for Donald Trump to fire James Comey, let alone for him to proceed to confess — in a public interview with Lester Holt, and then a putatively private meeting with Russian diplomats — that he did so in order to stop the Russia investigation. But the flurry of new reports over the last few days has given the puzzling sequence of events a more coherent shape. Within the warped internal logic of the Trump presidency — where it is taken as a given by essentially everybody around him that the president is impulsive and grotesquely ignorant — his shocking actions and statements have a more understandable basis.

A week ago, it appeared that the probe would center around the activities of a handful of figures who are now marginal within Trumpworld: former campaign manager Paul Manafort, foreign policy adviser Carter Page, and deposed National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. That has changed. The Washington Post reported Friday that investigators have identified a current White House official as a person of interest in its financial probe. (The story hinted, and New York Magazine contributor Yashar Aliconfirmed, that the person is Jared Kushner.)

Ominously for Trump, the Post reports that the FBI is “determining whether any financial crimes were committed by people close to the president.” While Kushner’s public persona differs wildly from that of the president in the functioning of his real-estate work, he is a kind of mini Trump. Inheriting an empire from his father, he has operated in gray areas of the world economy and positioned himself to gain handsomely from Trump’s election. Kushner has met with the head of a Russian bank functionally controlled by Vladimir Putin. He appears to be eager to use his proximity to Trump to make a buck; his family business is exploiting the familial connection to sell visas in China. Trump himself has a long, nontransparent history of business dealings with organs of the Russian state. (Last week, The Wall Street Journal dug up another case.)

All this implies that the probe is scrutinizing the financial aspects of Trump’s business, which is a family operation. While some Trump advisers opposed the firing of Comey, Kushner reportedly advocated for it. That fact may seem strange if one thinks of Kushner as a voice of pragmatism. But it is easier to understand if you think of him as a figure sitting near the heart of a financial scandal, who harbors a strong interest in suppressing the investigation.

Every deal they make is stained with corruption; every time they create a distraction it's designed to keep people from noticing that they just legitimized someone's theft of money. Winning the presidency was an afterthought, and now it gets in the way of cashing in. What we, as the American people, need to realize is that Trump, Kushner, et al, aren't very good at stealing money or laundering it because they keep getting caught. Your kids could catch these clowns stealing and laundering money. That's why you'll never see Trump's tax returns.

They have likely used Russian money to assist in the kind of petty corruption and graft that powers a third world economy. Now they have run into first world problems created by starting an undeclared war against the intelligence community and the Federal bureaucracy. They went to war against people who can identify, examine, and document how money laundering and fraud will need to look in order for a U. S. Attorney to indict someone for it. Michael Flynn tried to stuff some money in his pants on the side, but, all along, he's been working for the family business, and business has been booming. There's always a Russian with several hundred million dollars that's been skimmed off the top who needs someone to launder his money, and the Trump-Kushner people are easy marks for this.

They will all die while serving at least thirty or forty years in Federal prison, remember that.

The English Are A Tough Bunch of People

The early indication is that this attack at the Manchester Arena was carried out by a terrorist who detonated a suicide device at the end of the concert. This attack is chilling and familiar at the same time. It revives memories of other attacks, most notably that of the Bataclan in Paris.

Don't worry about the English people. They are a tough bunch. They won't run to the arms of a dictator or scream about leaving NATO or carry out war crimes against people in a faraway land. They'll put things right, tighten their security, lean on their police and continue on. The summer festival season is when the young people in Britain lose their minds and their shirts and celebrate being alive. The cult of death will never win in England. They're too busy grooving and dancing to worry about all of that.

Has anyone blamed Obama yet? Too soon for that?

Thanks For Holding My Beer While I Lay Hands on This Magic Orb With My Peeps

The answer to the question, "how much more bizarre is this going to get?" is, none. It's not going to get any more bizarre than this. We have reached peak Trump. This is as insane as he's going to get and we are all witnessing the apex of his insanity. From now on, everything is going to settle down, he's going to pivot, and all will be well.

"Hey, can you hold both swords, my beer, and this glowing orb for a minute?"

General McMaster Can't Even Answer a Simple Question

A few more months of this, and General H. R. McMaster will sound about as slick as Paul Ryan when it comes to giving non-answers to the media:

President Donald Trump's national security adviser declined to say if the president confronted Russian officials about the country's interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election during a meeting at the White House earlier this month, telling ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos "there already was too much that's been leaked from those meetings."

"One of the things that I'm most concerned about is the confidence, the confidentiality of those kind of meetings, as you know, are extremely important," McMaster said in an exclusive interview that aired on "This Week" Sunday. "I'm really concerned about these kind of leaks because it undermines everybody’s trust in that kind of an environment where you can have frank, candid and oftentimes unconventional conversations to try to protect American interests and secure the American people."

"The initial leak that came out was a leak about concerns about revealing intelligence sources and methods," McMaster said referring to a report from The Washington Post Monday, which stated the president revealed highly classified information to Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov and Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak which "jeopardized a critical source of intelligence on the Islamic State."

"Information that's not even part of the president's briefing. And so in a concern about divulging intelligence they leaked actually not just the information from the meeting, but also indicated the sources and methods to a newspaper," McMaster said on "This Week."

"I take your point on that, although there is also the question of whether or not it was right for the president to give that information to the Russians," Stephanopoulos responded. "But I just asked the direct question: Did the president confront the Russians on their interference in our election?"

McMaster still did not answer.

"I'm not going to divulge more of that meeting," McMaster said. "Those meetings, as you know, are supposed to be privileged. They're supposed to be confidential."

The leaks are meaningless--it's a crime against history to sit there and say that the leaks are the problem when all the leaks do is expose incompetence, fraud and bungling.

The reason why people are leaking is because their hair is on fire--this regime is the gang that couldn't shoot straight and lost the gun and ate the bullets and went on to shit daisies. McMaster is supposed to be a moderating influence on the president. He's supposed to be the adult in the room. But all of this comes from someone who made his professional reputation on a book that charged Lyndon Johnson and his advisors with dereliction of duty with regards to the escalation and prosecution of the war in Vietnam.

Does anything McMaster said sound remotely like he's providing Trump with anything other than the acquiescence and accommodation of a yes-man? McMaster doesn't have to say anything because the Russians recorded the meeting. He knows that and he's afraid of what tomorrow will bring. They all are, every one of them.
