Senator Joe Liberman (I-CT)
Yay! So glad to see that Senator Joe Liberman (I-$$$) is out to save us from ourselves:
Senate Democrats who thought they had found a workable compromise on health care reform learned otherwise from independent Sen. Joe Lieberman over the weekend.
The Connecticut senator, whose vote is critical to the bill’s prospects, threatened Sunday to join Republicans in opposing health care legislation if it permits uninsured individuals as young to 55 to purchase Medicare coverage.
Lieberman expressed his opposition twice Sunday: first in an interview with CBS’ “Face the Nation” and more strongly later, according to Democratic officials, in a private meeting with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
Reid, who is hoping to pass the legislation by Christmas, needs 60 votes to overcome Republican objections and has been counting on Lieberman to provide one.
But appearing on “Face the Nation,” Lieberman said of the Medicare proposal, “Though I don’t know exactly what’s in it, from what I hear, I certainly would have a hard time voting for it because it has some of the same infirmities that the public option did.
“It will add taxpayer costs. It will add to the deficit. It’s unnecessary,” he added of a provision that Reid last week hailed as part of a breakthrough between liberals and moderates.
Democratic aides, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Lieberman later told Reid he would support a Republican-led filibuster against the bill if it contained the Medicare provision or permitted the government to sell insurance in competition with private companies.
Of course, there wouldn’t even be a Senator Joe Lieberman if it hadn’t been for the fact that President Obama and Majority Leader Reid saved the man’s career and handed him more power and prestige than he deserved, but why quibble when the man who represents only his own greed and corruption, who campaigned vigorously against your interests, and who spoke at the Republican Convention against your party can float in the punch bowl and make everyone throw up on their shoes?
Really, what was it about this man did you not understand? He’s there to oppose you, and hurt you, and stymie your efforts to do good things. Letting him up off the mat and saving his career is easily the stupidest thing President Obama has ever done.

Um, Sen Lieberman is correct and wrong. He is correct in not supporting federal health care. He is wrong in the Why.
Federal health care Bills are strictly against the United States Constitution and that settles that.
No, that doesn't settle it, but thanks for playing.
A strict "constitutionalist" line of argument ignores the fact that the Constitution is a living document. If someone wants to challenge health care after the fact and after the Congress has made the changes in law and in policy and in code, and is heard by the Supreme Court, certainly they could strike it down, but your chances of that happening are slim and none.
Simply saying "that's unconstitutional" is all well and good. Actually getting the Supreme Court to agree, that's another thing.
I've already figured out where the line of attack comes from, and all of those issues are worked out here, at this rather explicit blog post:
http://www.healthreformwatch.com/2009/08/25/is-it-unconstitutional-to-mandate-health-insurance/
And, I've already seen the entire "it's unconstitutional!" line of attack, and it doesn't impress me much.
Small business needs health care reform to survive and thrive. It is well within the power of the Congress to reform the health care system as it has been proposed. And, remember, I say this as a conservative Republican who has NEVER voted for a Democrat, nor will I ever vote for a Democrat. QED.
