Calm Down With the Populism Over the H1N1 Vaccine
Thursday, November 5, 2009
One of the things that I can spot is populism in the media:
Stoking outrage against people with money is wrong. First of all, I have money. Second of all, it’s wrong. Third, if the people who are mad at the people with money get too mad, everyone is going to be moving to the barter system before sundown, thanks in large part to the mother of all bum scuffles. In a fair and just society, sometimes a select, elite group of people have to have more—it motivates everyone else to work harder. Do you want to live in a society on the go? Or do you want to live in a society of lazybones and layabouts?
I didn’t think so. Complaining about how bankers, traders, members of successful corporations, and donors to the Democrat Party have gotten more H1N1 vaccine than the old folks home down the road is populism, and populism hurts. It hurts good people who are simply trying to ensure that they are able to live while everyone else dies.
